IMGbooter

Post by rcrsn51 »

This is a companion script to ISObooter. It boots EasyOS image files without having to burn a dedicated USB drive.

It ONLY makes sense to be used on an ISObooter USB drive.

Put the script in partition 2 of your ISObooter drive and run it as usual: ./imgbooter easy-xxx.img

The script extracts the image into a "frugal install" on the drive and makes the corresonding GRUB entry.

I have not tested this much. It requires feedback.

[Update] One week later. No feedback. No reports about the bug.

[Update] Two weeks later. Still no feedback. Still no reports about the bug. I could withdraw the project but I know what would happen.

[Update] Three weeks later. Still nothing. Some EasyOS users claimed to really want this project.

This means that your post only makes sense for people who already have ISObooter or know where to get it. I don't. Where is it? Would you mind to add a link?

@rcrsn51 checking in the topic again I still don't see and answer to this:

It's like pulling teeth.....is there or is there not an actual link to download ISObooter (v3?) what ever version it's at now?

Yes there is a link @MochiMoppel right here for direct download -> download/file.php?id=18475

And the original post -> viewtopic.php?p=94590#p94590

The forum can be slow nowadays. But I'm sure those who asked for this feature would be grateful and eventually come back to respond. Either that, or there are no bugs and everything works perfectly.

Where would you rather I put it? Maybe in the Boot section along with tools like Ventoy? Would that make more sense to you? Should I give it a different name so you could find it with the forum Search tool?

I recently made a donation to Rockedge. It was more than I could afford but I used to believe that the forum was a useful resource that was worth supporting.

I no longer feel comfortable or relevant here.

I apologize for how my personal health situation has interfered with your favourite hobby.

@rcrsn51 Totally appreciate the donations. The entire infrastructure has become more expensive and is also actually far more than I should spend as well.

But I feel it's still worth it. I understand how medical issues can change things radically. My ex-wife and my youngest brother are days away from death from cancer almost at the same time and are both more than 1000 miles away in opposite directions.

My eyes are not what they used to be but I seem to be reading that you feel bit down about the Forum. You are definitely relevant and in my opinion a key contributor. I personally always read what you have posted. Even if it is not directly something I am involved with, I learn a lot from the information.

I am very sad now that you do not feel comfortable with us here. Makes me doubt myself and anxious that it's just another thing that is wrong and my fault.

As mentioned the forum is just not as busy as it once was, which saddens me. I know I try to answer or give information as quickly as I can especially if you are helping out.

Please try to consider all of us that enjoy having your participation here on this forum. MM can come across as bit grouchy at times as do some others on occasion.

@rcrsn51 I spent a lot of money the last almost 5 years now, on these forums and so much TIME spent no one can pay for.

I hope your medical issues improve and being around the forum is more enjoyable once again. I know I'm trying my best.

@rcrsn51

+1 for what @rockedge posted.

You have great value as a forum member. As a resident network expert, I've learned much of what I know from your post and work, plus the personal help you've given.

Regret that health problems are in the picture and hope you will improve.

Thanks

I definitely think that you are relevant and one of the most capable/competent people on this forum.

If it wasn't for you that guided/helped me years ago in my early days, I wouldn't be here in this forum.

Cheer up - I can say that I learnt a lot by reading your posts.
Wish you all the best and thank you.

+2

your first post could have been missed by many for any number of reasons. I rarely look at page two of active topics, and almost never browse individual subforums

A minority of users here boot ISOs and the "popularity" of Ventoy seems inflated by distro hoppers who already use ventoy before they find this forum, want puppy, easy or a dog to just easily work so they can see what puppy is about and then soon move on, never to be seen again.

ISObooter and the IMGbooter companion, does warrant a thread of its own as ISObooter fills a needed niche, and the boot section is where most would look if they remembered seeing the project but couldnt remember the name or enough key words to search by.
