My favourite ScreenShooter

Post by pp4mnklinux »

Hello everybody:

I hope you find this post a little bit useful, although there are three programs to capture screen included by default in Daedalus 6.4.3 ( Graphic - Screeny, Take a shoot, mtpaint) but I prefer this because I need to share my images with lot of people.

This program is Xfce4-screenshooter (https://docs.xfce.org/apps/screenshooter/start).

This application allows you to capture the entire screen, the active window or a selected region. You can set the delay that elapses before the screenshot is taken and the action that will be done with the screenshot: save it to a PNG file, copy it to the clipboard, open it using another application, or host it on Imgur, a free online image hosting service. And this option is what I need the most.

To install it, you must run PKG, PKGget and write the name of this program, you must install needed files and run it .-

RECOMENDED if you need to share your files with lots of people or you prefer to make them public accesible.

added.- some people told me that they consider an inconvenient thas xfce Screenshooter uses PNG as default file format.- No matter, when saving change the extension to .jpg and the problem dissapears.-

Related with this, can you answer me this question:

When you upload to imgurl, you obtain a link. Is it better to use this link when uploading images to the forum or include the image. (The link is a line, and the image uses space so I think it is better use the link than the image in order not to waste space, is this correct? THANKS )

Example using a link to include an image.

This way the image is hosted at imgurl and not at this forum.

You can also start GIMP, included in Easy OS, and in the menus choose File --> Create --> Screenshot and follow the instructions.

Hi pp4mnklinux

"Is it better to use this link when uploading images to the forum or include the image"

I like seeing the images --- easier to view the entire post without opening a tab to view each image. Lazy I am.

None of the ones on any of the recent Easy OS releases work for me.
I keep getting an error stating file is to large.

I don't know if it has something to do with my monitor display resolution 1152x864 or not.
I've tried resizing everything and still the same error.
I give up ain't got the patience to keep fixing busted stuff. (sigh)

I @tammi806 , I don't undertand what is your problem?

Is that you can't upload images to the forum because they are so big?

Ot is possible you must use another format. Open the image with GIMP and choose "save as" and choose jpeg with less quality.

If this is not the problem, please explain me what is it and I will try to explain u the method to solve this.... or I'll try to do it, 😉

An useful place to deal with "image problems" https://tinywow.com/tools/image

Have a nice day

If you are wanting a file to upload to the forum, IMO the easiest way is to take the screenshot with GIMP, then downsize it appropriately to something small enough to meet requirements. Most internet forums have size limits. (this one is 537 KB). And you really do not need high res images online, so for instance, I use 72 pixels/inch and quality 75. Makes for a nice small file.

My favorite is the Vivaldi built-in capture function, but I also use good old TAS. What the Vivaldi capture can do, is take a full window shot, not only the visible part on the screen, but all. I made an example of a shot of this entire thread with all posts, but it is unfortunately too large to upload in full size here, but I have attched a reduced size version..

Hi, @tallboy: That's a fantastic and really useful option.-
I browse with SlimJet, and sometime ago, I discovered an extension to do this important thing.

This addon is called Go full page-Full page screen capture .- There are some extensions to do this, but this is the fastest one IMO.

It has the option (config) to save as jpg, choose the destination folder....

Thanks a lot for your comments.

Have nice day u all.

Cheers

Added.- Other option (really useful) is configure keys and associate F1 (for example) with "mtpaint -s" and then save as jpeg with 75% quality.
