Maybe a future preset with user Group and spot in the group would accelerate adoption without user-related issues (meaning people like me [smile ])
Thanks, as I do understand the steps you show, but as you can see, even though this is a pristine system with only TLDR (from pacman) and Chrome (from the distro's "store") are the only additions currently. The desktop and spot login are running via the initial boot menu entry (RAM0). This result was done on bare-metal
I understand the SMB4K suggestion, too as these can be replacement for the forum built, primitively simple SSM and findsmb utilities
Smb4K is an advanced network neighborhood browser and Samba share mounting utility. It is based on the KDE Frameworks, Samba's client library (libsmbclient) and, optionally, the KDSoap WS-Discovery client. It scans your network neighborhood for all available workgroups, servers and shares and can mount all desired shares to your local file system. It is released under the terms of the GNU General Public License, version 2 (GPL v2+). Linux, FreeBSD and its derivatives as well as NetBSD are officially supported.
Smb4K 4.0 rc (3.2.90) released by Alexander Reinholdt 2024-10-15
The Smb4K project is proud to announce the availability of Smb4K 3.2.90, the (first) release candidate of the upcoming 4.0 branch. If you find bugs, please consider reporting them to either the bug tracker or to our Help forum.

Re: KLA-Plasma-6-KDE-CE ( stable release )
If you happen to build a new KDE in the future with the SAMBA contained, I will create a 'worded' document to support its use for user guidance in KDE smb LAN sharing.
This distro is great for users, especially those with PCs over the past decade being used by forum members.
It is 'SO' modern looking.

In review of the messages, I was surprised that pacman samba support brought in so many QT5 apps instead of QT6. But it doesn't really matter as long as it installs without issues and runs. Example

I won't add anything else, I already tried to reduce the image size from 4 gig to 1 gig and to leave everything necessary. The size still ended up being 1.4 gig
everything is installed out of the box and whoever needs it can install whatever they want

Still an excellent package at any size for the PCs from last decade or more. Its ease of use, stability and usability is far more important than a size to many of users. Not to mention its performance.
Thanks again for ALL you have done and the knowledge you have shared in the KL sub-forum community.

Re: KLA-Plasma-6-KDE-CE ( stable release )
@Sofiya
Maybe you may have some ideas.
I have a brand new laptop that I haven't had any success running this on.
It is a Dell Inspiron 14 7440 with an Intel Core 7 Processor.
When I run this from Ventoy, it boots and stops after these lines:
[ OK ] Finished Network Manager Wait Online.
[ OK ] Reached target Network is Online
Starting Run mycommand at shutdown...
[ OK ] Finished Run mycommand at shutdown.
It just hangs at that place.
If I press the power button once, it does a shutdown.
Would you have any ideas for what I could look further at to see why it stops here?
I can run BookwormPup64_10.0.8 somewhat successfully except it only has the highest display resolution and it connects to wifi.
I can also run KLV-vmHost-rc4 with ability to change display resolution but no wifi.
I can run Alpine Linux also that connects to wifi but can't change display resolution.
Is there any troubleshooting I can do for this KLA-Plasma-6-KDE-CE to make it work?
Thanks

Your issue is most probably a kernel version issue. Even though KLV_KDE_CE is a new release, it contains a kernel that is older being 6.1.52 which was released in September last year. You require a newer kernel. If you are booting using ventoy from the iso image file, then I don't know how to assist you, as I don't know how you can update the kernel that way. you need to be using a newer kernel version, which will have modules and firmware to cater for your new laptop.
If you are booting using the old frugal directory method, or ventoy by extracting the components into a frugal directory, the 3 components (vmlinuz, zdrv...sfs, fdrv...sfs) require to be changed to do a kernel upgrade. The fdrv and zdrv will require to be renamed to be 00zdr...sfs and 01fdrv...sfs respectively.
I am running KLV_KDE using the kernel from Bookwormpup64 10.0.7, which is 6.1.94. The latest bwp64 uses kernel 6.1.106. You could also try downloading from woofCE which are released regularly, or check out the kernels produced by @ozsouth, you would require a usrmerge/overlayfs kernel release.

Re: KLA-Plasma-6-KDE-CE ( stable release )
@TerryH
Thanks for looking into this.
My alpine linux has version 6.6.59. It works but has problems with the graphics
KLV-vmHost-rc4 has 6.10.10 It's way ahead for a KLV
Your right about BookwormPup64_10.0.8 has 6.1.106
I looked at BookwormPup64_10.0.6 which has 6.1.76 - that even booted up with wifi working.
Even though these booted, there is not really a match with the graphics.
I wouldn't know how to get work with changing kernels.
I guess I'll have to wait for linux to catch up with this model to fully use this computer.
You helped me to understand more about the kernels.
Thanks again

.
.
.
This is also the latest version available from woofCE kernel kit for the 6.6.x releases. At present there are no kernels beyond 6.6.x in the WoofCE kernel kit.
Following my previous post I decided I'd check a newer kernel than what I was using. I downloaded this latest version 6.6.59. KLV_KDE-CE is running great with this kernel on my laptop.

Clarity wrote: Thu Nov 07, 2024 4:38 amBTW: 6 more, new, distros since the beginning of this month are now released with KDE v6.2+
The KL versions, I feel, are both polished but also much faster, seemingly, in my testing. It appears that the KL distros a led the way into a stable offering that comes with some of the polish that is found with some apps that Puppy members are accustomed to seeing.
Any member seeing this post, give this distro a simple run and see for yourself what I have been experiencing. If you have a Ventoy or SG2D disk/disc, this is a mere download the ISO file to your BOOTISOS folder and boot to its desktop.
@Sofiya does this Arch OS update itself with app/security fixes or is a manual PM use needed?

Current kernel from Arch, but, KLs are not at this level, yet.
.
For people like @JusGellin I am not sure how to change the 'current' KLA KDE's kernel NOR am I sure if the PM allows the current v1.2 will make the change for your newer Laptop.

Do you need the latest Arch kernel for KLA-Plasma-kde-CE??? .I will build it for you, but don't be surprised by its size (that's the only reason I don't use it in the build)

@Sofiya I posted that as @JusGellin and others might consider to address their PCs.
I think, the next version of this distro will have newer kernels as time move forward.
I am not having issues of my PCs. And now that this distro is picking up the nvidia adapter, things are really easy in my use of this KLA distro in my testing.
Currently, to me, this is the most advanced and simple to use distro on the forum, currently.

Just tried it and expected to see Puppy stuff.
"this is the most advanced and simple to use distro on the forum"
I seem to be missing something, as usual.

Edit:
Yup I missed something alright. Just read
viewtopic.php?t=8975
and now I know it is not a Puppy.
Mild disappointment about expecting a KDE Puppy but I will be ok.

Kennely Linux distos are not puppy linux, meaning they aren't built using woof-CE, they are a different build system, and a general description can be found here: viewtopic.php?t=9826
I'm a avid Kennel Linux distro user, using KLV-Airedale when it was in beta testing. They are very versatile and easy to use, and are installed frugally like puppies, but using overlay as opposed to aufs, and are easy to do system updates using the upstream distribution's package manager.
But they don't use the same puppy tools as found in most puppies, though some are borrowed as needed or desired. There are a couple of Kennel Linux isos available using JWM, but different window managers are present on different KL versions. This one uses KDE-Plasma, KLV-Airedale uses Xfce, there are also Kennel Linux variations of Void and Arch linux using different tiling window managers.

I agree that each of the currently two(2) KDE projects should be in a separate KDE sub-area of the "Kennel Linux Distros" area.

Yes indeed I also don't like how the latest version of Pamac starts. I suggest downgrading to the previous version
download these 2 packages and install them in this order 1) libpamac-aur-11.6.4-6-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst 2) pamac-aur-11.7.1-5-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst . after installation, register them in ignored as shown in the picture below . 1- go to settings and so on in order 2,3,3,5 . let's hope that the next version will be normal

Arch Update Checker 0.10.7
You are probably wondering where the update icon from the tray went. It hasn't gone anywhere, they just haven't assembled it yet or won't assemble it since they assembled a plasmoid for this purpose. Open add or change widgets
find Arch Update Checker
. select version 0.10.7
Install
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
also install yay
to show and update packages from AUR
I put together a package just for myself. arch-update-checker-0.10.7-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst
After installing the package, run in the terminal to update the plasmoids systemctl --user restart plasma-plasmashell

Your comment didn't make a great deal of sense to me though it begs once again the oft-asked in other threads question regarding what is Puppy Linux in terms of a definition. But please don't attempt to answer that here since this is KL section and not Puppy Linux despite often provided similar functionality and even sometimes some utilities taken from Puppy or other forum distros.
I would guess however that you were looking for JWM/Rox combination since that was 'traditional' Puppy look and feel at least. Of course there are a few Pups in recent years that tried something different such as LXDE or even XFCE. However, I don't see how most KDE users would notice or care if the underlying distro was Puppy Linux or a FirstRib-based distro since both provide similar layering functionality but otherwise from the user perspective KDE is KDE and dominates the user experience. It is similar if running XFCE - on the whole that desktop environment is much the same no matter what the underlying system files are so why would anyone really care if a Puppy or not - surely the dominating factor provided is in fact KDE (which is certainly not JWM/Rox pinboard combination). No Puppy Package Manager either, but most recent Pups seem to rely on debian apt/dpkg on the whole anyway and not old PPM. As for size of final distro, well Pups are getting large too and many a KL is as small as any modern Pups, but the likes of KDE, including Qt and going to result in pretty large distro even if Puppy single user system driving it (in fact KL proper multi-user supports costs next to nothing in size or resource consumption).
Anyway, best to ask if someone will put in the effort to download/include KDE Plasma as a Puppy offering, but won't be much different from any other KDE environment of course - except single user root user oriented, which KL can do too. So this thread is about KL distros that simply are a different distribution altogether whether produced to use JWM/Rox-pinboard or KDE or whatever; JWM/Rox is going to become history it seems since all things are moving towards Wayland, and aufs appears to be struggling so that is unlikely to be a defining component either and never was since also used in several other distros such as the older DebianDogs, Slax and more.
