Hi Chase. Try it and share your impressions. I already have RPi 3+ and thinking of buying RPi 4. I doubt which system is better: RetroPie, Lakka or Batocera with ready-made emulators or Raspup and Twister OS with manual installation/compilation of emulators.

x86 programs run thanks to Box86 https://github.com/ptitSeb/box86
It can be compiled for other operating systems as well. But it is only for x86, and what is the bit depth of Raspup?

@Grey Yeah, I might try Twister OS eventually once I actually have time to just flash it to an SD card. It's actually bigger than RaspPiOS apparently.

Also, if I could pick one of the retrogaming OSes you mentioned, it would be Recalbox or Batocera. Batocera is more open-source than Recalbox, but other than that, they're about the same. Recalbox just recently released an RPi 4 version too.

Also the bit depth of Raspup is about 32 bits. Same as the vanilla RaspPiOS and stuff.

So there is a chance to build Raspup with Box86 on board I wonder how long it will take to compile on RPi 4 itself.

@Grey Well, one problem is that I'm not sure how to get Raspup working on RPi 4, so I'm kinda stuck with default RaspPiOS.

Also, I might move on to an ARM64 OS for desktop usage. Maybe Ubuntu MATE, since they compiled an Ubuntu desktop for RPi platforms way before Canonical did. Who really knows at this point, since I kinda also want to stick with Puppy and stuff.

By the way, I've still yet to try Twister OS myself, but in all honesty, I highly doubt I will any time soon. Sorry.

Just found this out recently. Downloading it right now as we speak. It's a minimal version with everything but Steam and whatnot. It still has box86 and Wine included though.

I can barely wait to run FL Studio 10 or LMMS on my RPi 4 desktop. I'm not sure if LMMS will work because 64-bit, but I hope FL10 will work because 32-bit and stuff.

I have hope, but I also have doubt. Wish me luck on my test.

I have been able to run Windows 32bit programs in Wine installed under Box86, which is installed in Pi-Apps which is installed OOTB in TwisterOS. All this on a Pi4 4GB, with Twister installed on a USB 3.0. Best to have both of these to run Box86.

Twister is now my go-to OS for casual work on the Pi4, as it is very fast, configurable and reliable in its own right, and comes with many good apps OOTB, which is why the download file is quite large.

Be advised that not all Windows programs run under all versions of Wine if hey run at all, and those that DO run in WINE in Linux may not run as well in Box86 in ARM64. But wen they do, they run quite speedily eg Faststone & DirectMP3Cut.

I have installed Pi-Apps in MX-Linux and Raspian, but the process is a bit longer, but dooable. Sorry, I dont have the link handy. Try TwisterOS !

I've just tried out Twister OS yesterday and spent half of my evening synching my Google Account with Chromium. Still worth it, but it made me tired for sure.

Anyway, I'll try FL Studio 10 sooner or later.
