Hello everyone and I hope you are all well.
As I wrote some time ago - viewtopic.php?t=12948 - I used - until yesterday - SimplePythonServer to watch films on the LG TV.
From today the LG browser (linux) is unable to resolve the address (xxx.yyy.1.63:8000), that is, the list of films in my video folder no longer appears
and therefore I cannot see the films.
Since the SimpleServer v1.5 is not found on Synaptic to re-install it,
can you tell me where I could find it and how to re-install it again in Bookworm?

Re: SimplePythonServer stop work on browser TVLG
Has the computer running the server at xxx.yyy.1.63 changed its IP address?

Re: SimplePythonServer stop work on browser TVLG
Hi rcrs51, thx for reply.
No it's always the same address (or at least I didn't change the address on purpose).
What's strange is that if I start SimpleServer from my sister's PC I can see her folder from mine;
instead if I launch SPS from my Bookworm when I go to search for the address with its PC the browser remains there searching
until the time out arrives.
Since I installed Bookworm a long time ago, I have always launched Simple and without any problem
I have always downloaded the files to my sister's PC and for about the last few months
I have also been watching films on the LG TV without problems; only last night I started not being able to do all this.
I also tried excluding the firewall and modem reset; but they had no effect.
P.S.
rcrn51, perhaps it could be a temporary problem with my modem or my service provider.
I verified that my PC's address did not change with the (ip a) command. It's OK.
In the meantime I re-installed simple (which I finally found in Synaptic) and in 20 minutes I'll try everything again, then I'll rewrite the result. For now, thanks to everyone.

Hi Sonia, just saying, there may be some confusion (sorry) about the exact package name, there are two different packages for the simple http server.
One with name "simple-python-http-server" (v1.5) is from rcrsn51, the other one "simple-python3-http-server" I brought in later and is different.

Re: SimplePythonServer stop work on browser TVLG
So friends everything was resolved (I'm not sure how it happened).
Let's see what I did in sequence : (obviously I write everything to remind myself how I acted to try to find the solution)
a) I checked on rnrc51's suggestion if not
the IP was changed with the 'ip a' command;
b) on Fredx info I checked via Synaptic ( through the exact name )
which SimpleServer I used and learned that
there is another alternative to Simple base;
c) I reset the fiber optic modem.
I tried everything again and now - for the moment - its original functioning has returned.
So I would say that resetting the modem might have been the cause of the solution.
thanks again to all the firefighters who responded to my small house fire.

Re: SimplePythonServer stop work on browser TVLG
No, not solved!
The impossibility of reaching the address through the browser (whether PC, LGTV or Cellphone) occurs through different tools.
I think it's an occasional error. The modem reset procedure was of no avail this time.
I would like to try with the Simple Python3 HTTP Server 1.0 that Fredx mentioned.
I'll tried to install it with Synaptic. let's hope so.'ll

Don't know. Perhaps try with another port number ? (e.g. 80 instead of 8000)
And be sure that the IP address is correct of course.
I would like to try with the Simple Python3 HTTP Server 1.1 what do you think?
You can, but as far as I know , the only difference is that it has support for uploading multiple files in one step.

Re: SimplePythonServer stop work on browser TVLG
nothing to do either with the evolution of simple base or with the new port it cannot reach the server address. How annoying this inconvenience is.
oh well, if I understand what the hell is happening I'll let you know.
thanks again sonia

Re: SimplePythonServer stop work on browser TVLG
novelty!
I tried to reach the basic simple server, from my PC where I launch the Simple server base with port 8000 and - for me incomprehensibly - it works by opening the address and showing me the files in the folder I indicated.
So what doesn't work seems to be the routing from my little sister's PC and the LG TV.
How many hypotheses?
PS I haven't updated the software on my sister's TV or PC.

Re: SimplePythonServer stop work on browser TVLG (NOT resolved BUT NEWS)
@soniabu
Is there any type of Firewall enabled?
On the machine acting as the server can you connect to the server with http://localhost:8000
. Remember to use http://
and not https://
Can you also connect with a browser on the machine acting as the server using the sub-net IP (something like: http://192.168.1.24:8000
)?
What user is the Simple Server running under?
What is the exact error listed when the server can not be reached via the LAN (your local area network)?

Re: SimplePythonServer stop work on browser TVLG
Is there any type of Firewall enabled?
YES; it is the standard Bookworm firewall; but even if I exclude it (off) I cannot reach the server from the terminals in the LAN;
However, I also opened port 8000. Keep in mind that everything was working until last Thursday evening.
Since I watched movies (stored on the PC) on LG TV, and from my little sister's PC, I could take some magazines from the folder on my PC.

YES

YES
What user is the Simple Server running under?
root user
What is the exact error listed when the server cannot be reached via the LAN (your local area network)?
No errors; the browser (for example of the LG TV or sister's pc) failing to reach the SimpleServer give time out.
As you can read some posts back
this afternoon after resetting the modem for some mysterious reason everything was restored by magic; then everything fell apart again.

Re: SimplePythonServer stop work on browser TVLG (NOT resolved BUT NEWS)
@soniabu Can you ping your http sever from the remote PC? (I think you said your sister's PC)
Like this
ping -c 3 192.168.10.10 (replace the ip with your http sever ip address)
If you can't ping it you have a network problem. Check all the connections and power devices off and on.
And recheck the ip address

Re: SimplePythonServer stop work on browser TVLG (NOT resolved BUT NEWS)
yes from my pc ye; from TV LG or sisters pc no.
Ok If you can ping your pc that means your network in up and ok.
If you can't ping your other pc or tv then the problem is between your pc and the other's.
Check all the cables and the router.

Re: SimplePythonServer stop work on browser TVLG (updated)
Friends, I won't disturb you on this topic anymore because I have come to the conclusion
that it is too occasional an error and certainly does not depend on the SW or on my HW.
While I'm writing to you everything started working again without errors.
So I think it's a problem caused by the provider.
to make up for the trouble I gave you,
I give you a splendid song like never before in recent years.
it would be necessary to follow their advice: video and song -https://ytify.netlify.app/?s=eG9iMJIT5sQ
song( if work ): https://odysee.com/@SoundLab:0/jackie-d ... ld-needs:7
see you soon sonia
P.S.
I promised not to return to the topic but for the sake of completeness I verified that my provider has nothing to do with it,
but rather it is a firewall problem which strangely I had to modify by inserting port 8000.
I write strangely because I have never modified the firewall! and so I don't understand how port 8000, which was open until the day before yesterday,
got blocked. I suspect that since I always keep the operating system updated, the firewall has also been updated and, in this case, loses the specifications of the open ports... enigma.
