Dell Latitude D800 display is pixelated.

Hello all

Have a Dell Latitude D800 notebook. 32-bit CPU, with screen size that may be 1200 x 800 or 1920 x 1200. Probably the first.
Am presently trying to install a 32-bit Puppy. Some time ago I got Precise Puppy (5.2 I think) installed and working.
Now I am trying to upgrade/boot from a thumb drive with uPupBB32, Bookworm32 and NoblePup32. (all three on the same thumb-drive.)
Both Bookworm and Noble Pups boot to a visible screen. uPup32 boots to a blank screen.

Writing now about Bookworm and Noble-Pup - I am trying to figure whether I have a hardware problem with the screen, or a software problem.
On the screen I see the "options" across the top of the screen as expected. "Options" -> icons for ROX (file manager), browser, terminal and so on.
I click (for example) on the terminal icon -> terminal window appears, with crisp, clear characters. Exactly as expected.

Down the side of the screen the drive icons appear but pixelated. The words below each icon are clean and as expected. sda1, sda2 (etc).
The mouse pointer is visible, but again - pixelated.
Info: Quick Setup reports: "the noveau video driver is being used". Current resolution 1200 x 800.
Tried other resolutions eg 1600 x 1200 and 1024 x 768. Also 1920 x 1080. None of these give a clear (expected) screen.
The background "Crown" and "critters" appear clear and as expected. The words, "NoblePup32" are properly displayed.
The mouse cursor appears to be "repeated" ghosting across the screen. Can supply a photo if requested.

Any suggestions? Bad display hardware or problem with the driver?

Very old hardware with nvidia video can be trouble several ways. I would try switching the video driver to vesa or frame buffer. Look in xorgwizard.

Please pick one specific Puppy version to talk about.

No two Puppy versions work exactly the same way.

If the fix is found for that specific Puppy version.

Start a new topic for another specific version.

Are the colours right?

I had a similar problem with an old eeePC. It wasn't always noticeable, but the colours were slightly off. My problem started on a flight overseas. The laptop got jolted around in my bag. A good hit on one side of it and everything came good. Loose connection somewhere.

Hard to tell if your symptoms are the same as the one's I had. Does the PC boot into the old install you had that worked? If the old install works fine, it essentially eliminates a hardware fault. If it doesn't boot nicely anymore, then hardware is probably to blame.
