xfce4-terminal in Spectr

Post by geo_c »

I've been using terminal file management almost exclusively now. I really like bouncing back and forth between mc and ranger. In spectr lxterminal is nice, but it doesn't play with well ranger previewing of images, which I use a lot, and even more so with pdf previewing to manage sheet music files. I was sticking with Uxterm but really missing being able to use tabs.

So since I like using xfce4-terminal in Airedale, I checked how many dependencies it would need to install in Spectr, turns out only one. So a total of two files: xfce-terminal and gtk-shell something or other.

I installed it and it runs great. Xfce terminal plays nice with ranger.

mc on the other hand, though using xfce4-terminal allows all it's themes to be used, even the 16M themes, it displays a lot of strange characters in about 70% of the themes. That's also true in lxterminal.

So I guess that has to with character encoding, and perhaps that is configured in .Xdefaults or .Xresources, maybe even bashrc. I don't know.

At any rate, just a report saying what a good fit Xfce terminal is for Spectr.
