MHO: I think its better to use it and report any bugs. My experience is with 5.7 and 7.0, that 'updates' should cover security and bugs. In some cases 'targeting' a niche as a spin.

Running a 64-bit 'puter in 32-bit mode looks like the intended 'market'. But 32-bit users can benefit, extending life-expectancy.

I would imagine theres a lot going on in 64-bitland and pi-ville.

I notice that upon initial boot-up of 7.0-32bit that isolinux.bin is called... then chains to wee --> grub4dos. Any way of using isolinux as supplied to always boot 7.0-32bit? I note the CD/DVD as sr0 has a boot folder, that the usb-installed pup DOES NOT.

youtube-dl in PPM is too old - as expected. youtube-dl is better to install from their website - easy installation!
http://ytdl-org.github.io/youtube-dl/download.html

Hello zigbert,
I am testing Slacko 7.0 for the first time and I followed your advice here to get youtube-dl. I followed the instructions on the website to get this program.
I installed in /opt but when I try to run it by clicking on it, nothing happens. When i run it in the terminal I get a few messages about 'command not found'
What am i missing? Please see the screenshot.
Thanks,
michel

Hello Slacko users!
I am testing Slacko 7.0 for the first time.
I want to know if it still maintained and how can I install Python3.8 or higher.
IN the PPM, the only version is 3.5.
I have the devx installed but there is no Python 3
Thanks

Michel

The developer of Slacko 7.0 is no longer active and also it is based on an old version of Slackware (14.2) so you would be advised to use a more recent version of Puppy.

Builder of LxPups, SPups, UPup32s, VoidPups; LXDE, LXQt, Xfce addons; Chromium, Firefox etc. sfs; & Kernels

Thanks peebee for your quick response.
I tried Puppy S15Pup64-22.12 and unfortunately it did not boot all the way. I could not start the X server on my HP ProBook 650. This is the same laptop I have used for FossaPup64 and Slacko64 using the SuperGrub2 boot method.
I am disappointed that I could not try S15Pup64. I will try again on another laptop using a different method.

python3-3.9.5-slk7-i686.pet

I just tested the package but it looks like it doesn't work on a 64 bit system. I am using slacko64-7.0
After installing the pet package, I got a successful message but I am not able to run python3 even though the directory /usr/bin/python3.9 exists as well as the shortcut to that location.
See the screenshot.
Thanks

@michel804
you got exactly what you asked for :-)

Slacko 7.0 = 32 bit ( i486, i586, i686 )
Slacko64 7.0 = 64 bit ( x86_64 )

here the 64 bit version
python3-3.9.5-x86_64

Slacko64 7.0 is rather old, you should change to a newer distro.
What do you do with your computer? audio, video, internet, office ???

Hello @michel804 and other Slacko users. In addition to @peebee's "S15...iso" there is an OUTSTANDING offering from @norgo. It is here for your review!

Enjoy

Yes @norgo you are right! I failed to mention in my original post that it was the 64-bit Slacko :)
As for what I do, i use it for internet access (email, Youtube, etc) but I also do Computer Programming; mainly Python3 and Java.
I was able to install JGrasp, an IDE for Java.
I tutor Introduction to Programming at a local Community College here in Virginia.
Thanks for the new link.

@norgo and @Clarity thanks for the link on SLK64. I think I am going to switch to that once I am done exploring the python3.9 package under Slacko64-7.0
I hope that the SLK64 Puppy will last a long time. I don't like to jump around too much. I like stability. Up to this point, I have used FossalPup64 since late 2020 or early 2021.
I am very pleased but I suspect that it will come to an end soon since Ubuntu has already released another LTS version. I was hoping that S15Pup will work but I am glad that there is another option.
See you on the other thread! :)
Thanks all

Michel

I am speaking for my experiences with @norgo's work with Slackware. He keeps the packages updated with items that most users want and use.

His works are stable, complete, and rapid in performance.

I would expect that his current works and future will follow the same tradition.

Enjoy
