There are plenty of Quake ports as ID Software made their source code open. nQuake is based on modern ezQuake port with HD textures and dynamic lights etc. It has everything to run network games as well as to view old great demos of all time.
Just unpack it and run. It supports only 64bit.

Quake world scene is still more than alive. ~40 y.o. fathers run and shoot each day in duels, teamplays and Nation's cups after their job and family hours. Last Nation's cup just ended with team Sweden at 1'st, Finland at 2'nd and team Russia at 3'd place.
