so I installed full ufei on my old Chromebook and im booting with a usb drive made with rufus (tried w/wo persistent partition). it works just fine but when I shut it down with the save it just boots back into the installer. I've tried saving it on the drive and the SSD on the Chromebook but it just doesn't work.
why does my instalation reset every boot?

dont know what you mean by "boots back into the installer"
do you mean it asks you to make save again, just like the first time? if so, you may need to change a boot parameter.
can you post your grub.cfg or other boot menu configuration?

Re: why does my instalation reset every boot?
What size is the USB drive?
What version of Rufus?
How did it setup the USB drive as to partition(s) and format?
what ever boot menu you see to select from.
Are you selecting the first listed entry?

*i hope the reply works cus Idfk what im doing*
the usb is 120gb
its rufus 4.5.2180
idk exactly what you mean abut how it sets it up but here's what it says
"partition scheme mbr. file system: large FAT32. cluster size 32kb. and I've tried with and without persistent partition"
im mostly using the suggested save configuration ion when I shut lunux down.
and this might not help much but the ufeI sofware im using is "mrchomebox-2045.0"(?)

line 36 of your grub.cfg has pmedia=cd
which is for a cd imedia install which searches for your save, but apparently is not finding it. there are parameters to point the boot directly to your save. can you find it manually?
see viewtopic.php?t=5484
BTW, you can copy and paste text into the editor and if you use the </> button up top, the code formatting will be preserved

Yeah it just saves it directly to the usb,
as in if you were to (on Windows) just selected the drive and drag something in

Also I could snag a video of what it says when booting or maybe a log file if I knew where to look

Re: why does my instalation reset every boot?
knowing where the save is would be helpful if you were to work further with the boot parameters, but knowing more details about how you used Rufus and what version of Rufus would help Bigpup.

@mec
Is your goal to boot and run from the internal drive, or boot and run from the USB flash drive?

Re: why does my instalation reset every boot?
This is one of the normal issues with doing a live install to a USB drive.
The pmedia= entry is wrong for booting from a USB.
Instead of pmedia=cd it needs to be pmedia=usbflash
Rufus does not know about making this change, it will not do it for you.
Open the grub.cfg file (that is on the USB stick) in a text editor.
Booting BookwormPup64
Using Rox file manager, all you need to do is left click on it, and it will open in a text editor showing its contents.
Anyplace it has pmedia=cd
Change it to pmedia=usbflash
Save the change and close the text editor program.
Now do a power off/on boot from the USB drive.
If it is still not finding the save that is already there.
Delete that save.
Shutdown and make a new save making sure you select to place it on the USB drive.
See if it now boots using the save you made.
Note:
Your grub.cfg file is showing entries for BookwormPup64 10.0.2
That was an earlier version and there has been much improvements. (some tweaking to boot process is one of them)
The latest version is BookwormPup64 10.0.7

you really need to use that version of BookwormPup64.

Re: why does my instalation reset every boot?
If you have another USB stick you could do installs on.
The installs would work better, if you use installer programs that are in BookwormPup64 to do the install, to USB stick or any drive.
If you are running BookwormPup64
main menu ->Setup ->Frugalpup installers
This will provide several different installs for doing installs.
Click on the help to get info on what each one can do.
All the stickpup ones are for USB stick installs.
This is how I use the main program Frugalpup installer to setup any type drive:
