100% CP

Post by LANdpLAN »

Why is my system so slow and using 100% CPU. I was better using Fossapup and Bookwormpup on a fat 32. Now I am using BWpup on Ext 4. Not sure if that is related... I'd attached a screenshot of FTOP

@LANdpLAN

Screen shot shows dual core CPU & 8gb ram, what is the CPU? Can't tell for sure, but tray looks like you might me running 2 browsers, on a low power system that's a CPU killer. Also if your browsers are streaming any video it's CPU intensive. Start closing browser tabs and watch CPU use, then try closing all the browsers and look at usage.

For what it's worth, I've been noticing some strange cpu action using the Firefox clone LibreWolf lately.

I first noticed while browsing certain content heavy websites that my cpu temp was reaching max. This happened on Bookworm and also a KLV distro, so I used cpupower to scale my processors top speed down, which kept the temp down, but it's still an aggravating problem.

I've been meaning to test those websites on a chrome based browser to see if I get the same results. My educated guess is that if the website, like a social media site has a feed with lots of video content, that it kind of stacks up as you scroll down the page, and certain cpu threads seem to max out.

What I think I've seen in the past, especially with Pale Moon, but now with Mozilla clones, is that certain processors are spiked and others not being used at all.

Using cpupower seemed to help even out the distrubution of the load over the 8 processor threads.

What exact version of BookwormPup???
32bit or 64bit?

If 64bit what exact version?
Yes it matters.
Is it version 10.0.3, 10.0.6, 10.0.7, what?
None of these versions are the same.

If you are not using 10.0.7 I strongly suggest you use it.

What is the computer????

Make and model?
Laptop or desktop?
Specs if you know them?

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.
When I was a kid, I wanted to be older.
This is not what I expected :o

@LANdpLAN

The AMD E2-1800 is a low power CPU with a Passmark v9 score of 805. I have several laptops with similar Passmark scores and the CPU overloads quickly, particularly when running browsers. You might try mikewalsh's Chromium Portable or one of the other lightweight browsers to see if they do any better.

Also, F96CE_4 takes less horsepower than BW64.
