Save setting/changes on same USB as Puppy ? (BookwormPup64 10.0.6) (solved)

Post by Jamayka24 »

Hello to all . I have tried Puppy since 4.1 and keep coming back.
' No suitable partition available' is what I get when shutting down and trying to save.
There is no HDD on the machine. When there was, the only option was the HDD.
Can small USB thumb drives be partitioned? If so can I do that and save there to make Puppy
portable ? Its Bookworm 10.0.6
Thanks

Thanks, I shrank the 30Gb drive and now have on a new stick:
/dev/sdb1 - 20Gb and 'unallocated' 10Gb.
What do I do with the unallocated to label it and use it to save ?

Perhaps you should clarify whether
1) you boot bookworm on sda1
2)you boot bookworm on the shrinked sdb1
3)something else

Played around with it so much I've forgotten what I did.
Its Ok now. Auto setting of router password, time, date etc.
so lets see after I use it some more.
Its booting into the new usb sda with OS in sda1 and the save file in a new partition sda2.

Please recommend a good beginners tutorial for Linux.

Congratulations!!

Puppy is of course Linux - but has some special traits.
Better consult/Search Forum Topics.
The Help is nice here - so just ask.

Two things you might want to do at this point:
1) make sure you undersstand the save-file options
the possibility of backing-up your save-files.
creating "milestones" as you setup your system.
2) run dmesg in terminal
you will be watching talkback from the kernel ,
Things are probably ok - but being aware
of the tool/info might be helpfull if hardware issues.

I'm good thanks to you all. Will stay with Puppy this time.
Not as pretty as others but it works well; most of the time ;-)

@Jamayka24

Allow me to modify your comment.
[A bog-standard out-of-the-box official release of BookwormPup is] Not as pretty as others but it works well.

I agree, but Linux is very modifiable and Puppy is the king of custom re-masters.
If you want to see a *very* pretty puppy, check out F96CE_XFCE_FUSILLI. It's visually amazing, but based on an old puppy. I wish somebody would do all that with BookwormPup64. I'd be their bestest friend. lol

@HarveyH - I've done too much hopping around -going to stay with Bookworm for a while.
The icons in the tray are terrible-need to be simplified, made more iconic, ie recognisable.
and the setup windows/dialog boxes for time zone, network etc are very ugly and dated,
other than that I am quite happy with the minimalistish look.
