EasyDD-portable - new, updated build

Post by mikewalsh »

Evening, gang.

Some of you may remember the portable packages I assembled a few years ago, using Barry's 'easydd' script, which he built in order to simplify writing an .img file to a thumb drive. It made use of a 32-bit statically-compiled build of 'dd' which he provided.

Well, to cut a long story short, the packages I'd provided here:-

.....are somewhat out-of-date (Barry's updated the script quite a bit since then, and the 32-bit dd binaries aren't 'seen' by the script when running under 64-bit Puppies). So; making use of the original 32-bit static 'dd' PLUS a 64-bit 'static' build which Barry has graciously supplied, here's an up-to-date 'noarch' build of this apparently quite well-used utility.

The launch script checks for the OS architecture, temporarily moves the original 'dd' out of the way and sym-links the appropriate static 'dd' in for the duration of the app's use. At close, the original 'dd' is re-instated back to its usual location.

It still works extremely well at what it does.

----------------------------

For anybody who wants this updated build, I've attached it below. It's packed as a ROX-app, and Menu entries are supplied as usual if required. Hope it proves useful for some of you.

The main script is from the pen of the PuppyMaster himself, so.....enjoy.

Mike. ;)
