LibreOffice crashes when saving Write document

Post by mikeslr »

Hi All,

Anyone else having a problem with LibreOffice. When I try to save a Write document it crashes. This happens using a couple of versions of LibreOffice 7x (x being variations) SFSes and the LibreOffice 7 AppImage. Thinking it might be a "lib" conflict, I tried an older SFS from the "6" series. Same problem.
As I don't recall that happening until recently, it may be that something I've installed conflicts. I've been trying to setup VPN. But if the problem has to do with such recent installation I'm really not inclined to uninstall it now that I have VPN working.

My solution, for now, is to replace LibreOffice with watchdog's publication of OpenOffice 4.1.8, viewtopic.php?p=9866#p9866 for which watchdog has been thanked. :D

I'm In a Fossapup64 (sans adrv plus peebees ydrv, geany and galculator) install right now running a LibreOffice version 6.0.6.2 installed as a shared portable. When I built the portable, I ran it repeatedly in terminal and juggled libs til it ran clean.

I just created a relatively simple test document, saved it as a docx, odt, doc, and rtf; then opened it from each. No issues seen. The directory I saved them in is on my ext2 data partition and symlinked to the desktop. I haven't used it much since I set it up but its' companion portable MasterPDF has gotten more of a workout. My only remaining SFS installed progs are the 32b and 64b SlimJets.

I'm really happy with that Fossapup64 install (size and balance) and also with the portable approach.

My pups: LxPupSc64 and Voidpup64 with LXDE ydrv and synaptics touchpad drivers, using small savefiles for customizations. Ydrv based NoblePup64 and Fossapup64-low (both LXDE/PCManFM with no savefiles). Small common custom fdrv throughout. :thumbup2:

@mikeslr :-

Yah, it sounds like you have a "conflict" of some sort, Michael. The current AppImage runs fine for me, saving without any fuss.....

Hello MikeSLR.

Open Office: Version: 5.3.7.2
Build ID: 6b8ed514a9f8b44d37a1b96673cbbdd077e24059
CPU Threads: 4; OS Version: Linux 4.9; UI Render: default; VCL: gtk2; Layout Engine: new;
Locale: en-AU (en_AU.UTF-8); Calc: group

Have been using the version of Libre Office for one or two months. Have not encountered one problem - but I am just a basic writer. I use two or three styles, foot-notes, and headers and footers. Present document is 8900 words. Current uptime: 6 days, 4h 40m (approx).
Yes - an outdated version - This is adequate for me.

Running uPupBB32 (the busy beaver).

Linux Kernel: 4.9.163-lxpup-32-pae (i686)
Kernel Version: #1 SMP Thu Mar 14 15:41:19 GMT 2019
Build GCC: 8.3.0
PAE Enabled: Yes

Distro: BionicPup32 19.03
Window Manager: JWM v2.3.7
Desktop Start: xwin jwm

Generally, Puppy linux does everything for me.
Installed Libre Office on other machines (that I don't use) and no-one has reported a glitch.

I've also been using LO on my bionic64 system for quite some time (and prior to that on my bionic32 and trusty32 system). I am currently using the latest stable LO 7.0.3.1 version.
I always just download using the puppy menu "Document > Get Libreoffice download and install libreoffice"

However - quite some time back I did experience a similar problem as you describe. It nearly forced me to move away from LO - but finally I noticed something I had been missing ie I was only experiencing the problem when I was trying to save to a mounted external USB drive. Eventually I found that I had to change the parameters I had been using to mount the drive with the CIFS command.

Are you by any chance also trying to save to a external USB? Do you experience the problem when saving to an 'internal' drive?
