Feature request: for Pup Advert Blocker

Post by Governor »

BookwormPup64 10.0.6 (x86_64)

The Pup Advert Blocker in fossapup presents 3 different block lists to download and use.
mvps.org, sysctl.org, and yoyo.org
Presumably, a user can also update to newer blocklists when choosing one of the 3 blocklist sources offered in Fossapup.

Generally, I have noticed several improvements in Bookworm, compared with Fossapup, but this feature is missing from Bookworm. Can it be imported from fossapup?

In Bookworm, a user can start, stop and edit the blocker, but there is no choice of blocklist. Only the default blocklist is available, and there is no indication of where the default blocklist originates from.

Why does a feature in a newer puppy version get depreciated, and not kept the way it was?
Sorry if this is something I don't understand because I am new to Puppy/Linux.
Thanks!

I used to walk the earth thinking the news was real and adults knew what was going on.

There are ongoing disussions on the forum frequently about what goes into a puppy, what a puppy is, how it should be developed, what build systems to use, etc, for instance this one running currently: viewtopic.php?p=123311#p123311

It's a good idea to read a lot of threads on this forum, even ones that don't seem to be relevant to your current OS use, because you learn what's "out there" and how it all fits together.

What you come to understand is that this isn't a "support forum." It's actually more of a community of diverse enthusiasts that learn from each other and help drive each other's ship along.

Selection of hosts sites is no longer needed.

The default method coded into the program is to always use this:

Code: Select all

This hosts file is a merged collection of hosts from reputable sources,
# with a dash of crowd sourcing via GitHub
#
# Date: 17 June 2024 00:51:10 (UTC)
# Number of unique domains: 153,900
#
# Fetch the latest version of this file: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/StevenBlack/hosts/master/hosts
# Project home page: https://github.com/StevenBlack/hosts
# Project releases: https://github.com/StevenBlack/hosts/releases

This list is constantly updated from this web site.

Looking at the old setup to choose what to use.
Not sure some of those web sites are still providing good info or any info.

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.
When I was a kid, I wanted to be older.
This is not what I expected :o

Since https://github.com/puppylinux-woof-CE/w ... 2c3db80c63: any Puppy built before doesn't have this.

That makes sense. Good to know. Thanks.
IMO, it would be an idea to include this info in the help text when the Help button is clicked. 8-)

Got it. Thanks.
IMO, it would be an idea to include this info (posted by @bigpup) in the help text when the Help button is clicked.
That would end any uncertainty or confusion forever more. 8-)
