Removed builtin programs. How to restore what was removed by whitelisting

Post by bigpup »

This only applies to stuff that is built into the Puppy version.

Deleting or removing it only whitelists it, so it is no longer seen by the Puppy OS.
The files/folders are still in the original Puppy SFS's.
But in the save is the file/folder names whitelisted.

Whatever it is will be identified in the pupsave with a .wh. added to the name of file/folder.

Easy way to find all items this has been done to.
Open Pfind program.
In search enter:
*.wh
Select all files as where to search.
Note:
all files will search all locations.
If you have other Puppy installs. It will search them, also.

It will provide a list of all items that have the .wh. in their name.
Notice they will be in the save.
right click on the ones you want to restore.
Select delete.
This deletes them from the save.

When you have deleted all you want to or think needs to be deleted.
Need to reboot and make sure to save, so pupsave is updated.
Now booted with this updated save.
That should bring back anything you did this to.

Note:
If a program was removed.
All parts of the program, (Files/directories) will be listed as single items.
So, will have to delete each one to get the program fully restored.
Usually the individual files will be identified with the program they are for.

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.
When I was a kid, I wanted to be older.
This is not what I expected :o
