Accessing Headless FatDog in Local Network from Android?

I would like to quickly access a headless FatDog system in my local network from an Android tablet from time to time so that I don't have to pull out a laptop.

Are there any add-free, open-source applications available for Android to securely access a system via VNC or SSH? Ideally without having to install F-Droid...

To be honest, I am getting totally tired of the Google Play Store, but I don't see any real open-source alternatives to run a real Linux system on a mobile device in a safe way. From a compatibility perspective it's incredibly hard to find suitable mobile hardware to install a custom rom. Is Android dead from an open-source perspective?

No expertise on the main subject, but I have used F-Droid apps over the years (without ever installing the F-Droid app itself). Never had any issue.

When I can get on top of various current demands, I hope to figure out Linux as a phone. Last I checked, it is not a viable option in the US until they get VoLTE functioning. After that, figuring out hardware that is budget-friendly is likely to be a challenge.

It sounds like realVNC is going to adopt a paid subscription model soon. JuiceSSH looks great, but the app is unfortunately not available for new Android versions.

How do you install an app that is listed on F-Droid without having to actually install the F-Droid-App @dr__Dan ? Are there any specific apps that you have tried? The Termux app looks useful:

A real Linux OS on a mobile device that can actually be used as a telephone would be great. But there is probably not a lot of interest in the industry and too much hardware variety in the market. That's comparable to finding suitable hardware for running open-source router software like OpenWRT...

More research required, but my understanding is they're doing a remote app a bit like teamviewer, which is paid for. for realVNC lite it is free, which will still allow you to access your own stuff on your own LAN

I followed the link, and scrolled down to the version descriptions. At the bottom of each, there is an APK link. Select, download, install.

dd-wrt here. Linux phone already exists, just "not ready for prime time".

A quick search for F-Droid didn't raise any trust issues. Do your research, make your decision.

All the apps listed in F-Droid is open source.
You don't trust them, fine, grab the source and build it yourself

I assume you have never published an app to Google Play Store, because if you do, you won't be asking this question. As an aside, note that some F-Droid apps are published also in Play Store as well (by its own author). Make of that as you will.
