Error accessing puppylinux.com...

Post by ke8cqc »

I'm using the latest Vivaldi attempting to access puppylinux.com and am consistently getting either 403 errors or 500 errors. I tried sending an email to the webmaster address in the 500 error, but it got bounced back to me as undeliverable. Is there another way to make the webmaster aware that the website isn't rendering properly?

just tried it in Brave and Cliqz and puppylinux.com renders correctly. Tried https: as well which will cause a complaint that the certificate is from Github and not puppylinux.com but it will render.

When I access puppylinux.com with SeaMonkey 2.53.3 on EasyPup 2.3.3, I get "403 forbidden" error.

I run several puppies. I do not encounter such an error on the other puppies.

Palemoon shows it correctly. Curiously, my favourite 'clone', Iron, won't; although it's up-to-date, the browser insists the certificate is invalid. It all seems to check out, though....

(My bad. I'm forgetting the way URLs work in the clones these days.....you don't bother entering 'http' or https' anymore. Simply enter 'puppylinux.com', and it connects straight away....)

Using ubuntu 16.04 getting forbidden 403 when trying to access website. Used my cell phone and no problem. Tried different browsers on ubu, and still same. What gives? Am I blocked for some reason? Just trying to learn about puppy to possibly install.... UPDATE: 2 min later: Just tried one more time after registering here, and now it's working... weird. UPDATE: 10 min later: Watched video for bionicpup clicked download button arrow, now 500 error...

Hi @whatsgoinon.
No problem here (image attached).
Nevertheless, a few people have bumped with the same problem. However, it doesn't seem to be a problem with the site itself (every time I read someone has problems accesing it, I can connect perfectly) but a browser related problem (seamonkey fails, iron fails, pale moon ok, waterfox ok, dissenter ok, etc).
Sorry I can't offer you a proper solution :(

The 500 Internal Server Error is a very general HTTP status code that means something has gone wrong on the web site's server but the server could not be more specific on what the exact problem is.

How do I fix error code 500?
How to Fix the 500 Internal Server Error

Reload the web page. ...
Clear your browser's cache. ...
Delete your browser's cookies. ...
Troubleshoot as a 504 Gateway Timeout error instead. ...
Contacting the website directly is another option. ...
Come back later.

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.

Some browsers will not connect using https to puppylinux.com! There is only a self signed certificate or none at all so https will not work smoothly. Here on the forum the actual URL is puppylinux.rockedge.org and using some redirects and rewrites it uses the alias forum.puppylinux.com. The actual domain puppylinux.rockedge.org has a commercial grade certificate issued annually.
So puppylinux.com via https or http has a difference.

403 errors with Firefox, Brave, Chromium and QuteBrowser on my laptop and desktop, all are latest downloads. Surf had no issues though I have not rebuilt it for sometime. Brave and Chromium are at out-of-box settings with no extensions. Tried Firefox on my phone with no problem (currently using same network). Makes me wonder if there is a bug in those browser engines.

I encounter this problem with SeaMonkey (default on EasyPup), Firefox and Chrome on EasyPup 2.5.1.

First I thought the SeaMonkey which Barry had compiled was the cause, but it seems that the problem depends rather on the OS or the combination of the browser and the OS.
