Keyboard doesn't work (ChromeBook computer) (solved)

Post by BenBooth1344 »

I am trying to run puppy linux on a former Chromebook.

The keyboard works during boot (allows me to select boot options) and also in both Porteus and Lubuntu linux distros.
As soon as it boots into puppy it stops working.
The built-in trackpad works but sound also doesn't work.

I am able to plug in a usb keyboard and have that work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Some System details:'
FossaPup 9.5 installed on 64bg sandisk usb drive using Rufus on Windows 10. Selected "dd" option instead of "iso"
Machine has 4gb of RAM and a 2.16 GHz dual core processor
It is chromebook hardware "REKS"

What is the make and model of the ChromeBook?

Read this topic:

Chromebooks (Run and install Puppy)
viewtopic.php?t=431

One of the posts will provide help for you.

Note:
Sound issues are one of the most problems to solve in ChromeBooks.
Several posts in that topic tell about different ways people used to get sound working.
Some ChromeBooks it just works.
Others need to be figured out what needs to be done.

Because there are so many different versions of ChromeBooks and the hardware they use.
May need to just try a few different Puppy versions on it.

This is kind of normal for Puppy Linux.
No one specific version of Puppy will work on all possible computers.
That is why there are always several Puppy versions available.

If this is a ChromeBook newer than 4 or 5 years old.
Most likely a newer version of Puppy Linux is needed.
One using a series 6 Linux kernel.

BookwormPup64
F96-CE_4 (this is an updated version of Fossapup64)
One of the newer Vanilla Dpups
Etc..............

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.
When I was a kid, I wanted to be older.
This is not what I expected :o

I have a Lenovo N22 REKS chromebook.

Based on the linked topic I loaded a BookwormPup64 iso (10.0.6) onto my usb stick (using dd from within Porteus Linux)

Good news.
Both the keyboard and sound work out of the box! (no configuration required to get keyboard/sound working at all, just worked by default)

Thank you for your help!
