Thunar - how to adjust column width? <SOLVED>

Post by dcung »

Anyone knows how to adjust (left side) column width in Thunar 4.16.1?
I'd like to see more on the left side, but unable to find where to configure this.
I have tried googling and changing settings in (w/o success yet - so many to variables guest):
~/.config/Thunar/
~/.config/xfce4/

This is what I'm experiencing, ie. can't drag the separator.
What does he mean?

After I remove shadow and linux-pam in blfs and recompile shadow in lfs and linux-pam in blfs, my mouse can drag the separator in thunar.

I just drag the separator in the Thunar I'm using, which is version 4.18.4

After reading that you can.
I tried again (bullseye), still couldn't.
So, changed to Bookworm, and tried...still could not.
I was about to reply that I could not...but accidentally I could.
So, I tried again...and "yes" the separator can be dragged...but very difficult to find the 'spot'.

I never could drag the separator before reading your reply.
I thought it's 'fixed' separator in Thunar...

Thanks for replying @wiak !

Now, is there a way to make that separator line thicker?

@dcung It may be because of the default theme (old Greybird theme, not completely supporting gtk3, I've put it on my todo list to fix that), same problem with synaptic.
Selecting/installing another theme will probably solve it.
EDIT: Correction, for me it's the cursor theme that needs changed, I installed the "crystalcursors" package , selected it and then the "drag" cursor appears :

edit: using the included (black) Adwaita cursor theme fixes it too.

I usually just use whatever default mklive created.

It's just with this one (TV-monitor), I changed (bigger) font sizes and hence the left side (Thunar) is showing incomplete. And when you hover the mouse pointer around the separator line, it didn't change to 'double headed' arrow to indicate that you can adjust it.

.
.

But after reading wiak's info, I can adjust/drag the separator though it takes some effort.

I tried changing theme Alpha, Raleigh (on another laptop), but I didn't notice any difference. Can still adjust/drag it though, just not any easier, nor the pointer shape changes. I'll try it on different laptops later, see if it makes any difference. If so, I'll report.

In synaptic, at least there is a thick border on the middle-bottom part, so adjusting is a little easier than in Thunar (one-pixel separator).

At least now I know, it's adjustable..just have to get very close to the one-pixel. :D

Yep. 'Adwaita' This fixed it.
Hovering mouse now changes the pointer to appropriate one.

Edit:
- One more thing (changes) to remember next time I refresh my mklive sets.

Thanks @fredx181

Edit 2:
If you 'fix' it from your end, I don't have to do anything when I run mklive next time right?
In that case, let me know if you decide to go through your to do list.

@dcung See my EDIT in previous post, it is the cursor theme you need to change, here's also "aero-drop".

aero.tar.gz
Extract and replace in ~/.icons
(61 KiB) Downloaded 7 times

Extract and replace "aero" in ~/.icons and it should be fixed (may need a restart X)
edit: posted at the same time, I see now you solved with Adwaita cursor theme.
EDIT: The original "aero-drop" didn't work in Bookworm for me, replaced the attachment above with "aero" (which has in fact content of aero-drop theme (with shadows) (edited the index.theme), but renamed it to aero, besides the shadows, for the rest practically the same)

I did put it on top of my todo list :D Shoiuld be fixed now when doing a new mklive build.
In fact included will be the "aero-drop" theme (that I was able to fix), but renamed to "aero" (cheated a little for my convenience ;)), otherwise I would have needed to change the name in many places, so now only replaced the aero dir in ~/.icons in the "dog-boot-....." archives.
EDIT: Also replaced attachment here: viewtopic.php?p=117648#p117648

Refreshed my bullseye, bookworm and daedalus sets.
Resizing separators works now (Thunar, Synaptic) in those new builds.
