Balena Etcher won't install my remaster

Post by petihar »

Hello,
BalenaEtcher has no problem installing Bookworm Pup64 on a USB stick, but this is impossible with a remaster.
I get this error message that I don't understand. Can you help me solve this problem?
Thanks petihar

Balena Etcher is the wrong tool and is not recommended. Using it with Puppy ISO's is hit and miss, mostly miss. You will have better success with Rufus or Unetbootin.

What method did you use to do the remaster?

I remastered puppy_dpupbw64_10.0.4.sfs from BookwormPup64 10.0.4.
Then replaced the original dpupbw with the remastered one in a folder containing the mounted ISO.
Then I did a dir2iso on that folder to get the remastered ISO.

Boot Puppy with your save file/folder that has all your changes and try this method.

Hello wizard
Thanks for your help, I think I've solved the problem, my new ISO installs correctly with unetbootin. But you're right, balena etcher is not the right tool.
Sincerely petihar.

I have just completed a Remaster using the technique built-in to BKWP64's Menu>Setup>Remaster Puppy Classic.

I am able to boot the remastered ISO file and operate as before without issues.

I do NOT write any forum's ISO files as a USB/DVD (For years this is true for me as I use 1 of the 2 boot launchers for all forum distros). These allow me to boot the ISO files directly on bare-metal as a frugal operating OS or in a VM as a frugal operating OS.

In a few moments, (assuming no distractions) I will post successful remaster steps and reference it here.

Completed HERE for a walk-thru to a bootable BKWP64 remaster experience.
