Screener (screensaver) for KLV

Post by fredx181 »

Screensaver utility, works with xlock (from package xlockmore) and xautolock,(both available in Void repo). Originally written by rg66 and Geoffrey, in 2013 (as included in x-tahr).
Made many modifications to make it work for KLV:

  • Supported when logged in as user "spot"
  • Does not activate the screensaver when active playing video or audio from any browser (also not when playing from a mediaplayer , e.g. Parole or MPV, but that was already supported AFAIK).
  • Setting a custom password to unlock (as older xlock versions support) is NOT possible, to unlock (if "Password Protect" is checked in the Screener GUI) the password from current logged in user should be used (default in KLV: root = root, and spot = spot (AFAIK).
  • The list of Screensaver modes (in /usr/share/screener/savers) matches with the supported modes of the Void version of xlock.

Installing below package will install also dependencies xlockmore and xautolock (perhaps needed to do first xbps-install -S) (update package lists).
After install it will appear in Menu > Settings > Screener
The amount of "Savers" or call it "Modes" is more than 100 (use pgdn or pgup from keyboard to easily scroll through in the GUI) and lots of them are really beautiful IMO (I chose "random" to be surprised everytime ;) ).
I'd advise in case of KLV-Airedale to disable the built-in-XFCE screensaver, it may possibly conflict with Screener.

EDIT: Note that for other KL distros, e.g. KLA, the list from xlock of supported screensaver 'modes' may be different (so /usr/share/screener/savers may not match) (look at it with xlock --help (at -mode ....)
