Post by bigphil »

Hi all,
apologies if this post is in the wrong place, Mods. please move if so.
As the subject states I want to put an image in a post but can't find out how to do it.
Would someone kindly post an idiots guide as to how to do it.

Thanks Phil.

1. compose the message
2. drag & drop the image onto the message (size must be less than 512kb, also maximum of three attachments), this will put the image at the bottom of the post by default.
3. to position the image, put the cursor in the target position, scroll down below the message and click the "Attachments" tab
4. click the "Place inline" button
5. click the Preview button to check

There is a 537 KiB size limit. If the image is above that size, you will have to reduce it in size.

@bigphil :-

The other way around this - useful if you want to regularly post screenshots, images, etc - is to create an account with one of the many image hosting services online. I don't think there's any that will let you share images without doing so, but I could be wrong. I used to use Imgur, but after they messed things up big-time when they "re-vamped" the site, I switched to PostImage.

By doing so, you sidestep the problem of the forum attachment size limit, because all you're doing is to post a link.....which takes up very little room (only a matter of a couple of kb at most). And your image can be as big as you want it to be, because it's the image-hosting service's servers that are taking care of it, not the forum's.

Many will let you post a thumbnail, which when clicked upon will take you to a full-size image at the image host.

Probably more complexity than you want to bother with, I guess! :D

Just my two-penn'orth, FWIW.

Mike. ;)

To add to what wizarde and TerryH said:

If you're running almost any version of Puppy, you can crop an image or reduce its resolution using mtPaint. Crop the image so that only the part you're talking about is left, not the whole screen. Often, this is all you need to do to reduce its size so the forum will accept it.
