MX Linux MX-23 Chinese Language debs

MX-23 "Libretto" 64 and 32 bit usb live isoes were released on Jul 31, 2023. MX Linux is a desktop oriented linux system with Xfce desktop and debian kernel developed jointly by the antiX and MX Linux communities.

I. Chinese language support
I have created 7 half-Chinese and 2 Chinese debs to provide Chinese support to MX-23 separately for 64 and 32 bit(MX-23_x64.iso and MX-23_386.iso):

(A) Half-Chinese debs:
64 bit
1. fcitx64_4.2.9-en-zh-bookworm-121.7.2.deb (22 mb)

(C) Functions:
1. the half-Chinese language debs under (A) will enable you to display and input Chinese in the English MX-23 system using 1 of the 7 input method platform:
a. fcitx - with 33 Chinese input methods
b. fcitx5 - with 36/11 Chinese input methods for 64/32 bit
c. gcin - with 16 Chinese input methods
d. hime - with 11 Chinese input methods
f. ibus - with 27 Chinese input methods
g. scim - with 23 Chinese input methods
h. yong - with 25 Chinese input methods

2. the name and version number corresponding Chinese language debs under (B) will give you Simplified Chinese (zhcn) or Traditional Chinese (zhhk) menus, icon labels, tooltips for MX-23. Please note that all Chinese language deb rely on a suitable half-Chinese language deb already installed to the system (see section C1 above)to provide Chinese input platform and Chinese fonts.

(D) Usage
(A) After bootup the live system, yon can activate the icake Chinese language pack by switching to super user (root):

1. open a terminal and type: sudo start; press enter

2. when ask for password, type: demo; press enter

3. to install the icake half-Chinese or Chinese language debs:

i. open a terminal (under the super user mode "root") and type: dpkg -i name-of-deb.deb; press enter
e.g. dpkg -i fcitx64_4.2.9-en-zh-bookworm.121.7.2.deb

ii. wait for the installation to finish and it will startx once. Then you can use the half-Chinese/Chinese deb installed.

iii. to activate Chinese input method:
a. open an application that allows user input (e.g. geany or firefox)

b. move cursor to user input area, press: "Ctrl+space" for fcitx, fcitx5, gcin, hime, scim or yong; "Super+space" for ibus

c. start entering key strokes according to the Chinese input method, a Chinese input window will pop-up on the screen with the available Chinese words for input

II. Combo iso
I have also remastered the MX-23 live system with built-in Chinese input platforms plus Simplified and Traditional Chinese language support into these 2 icake
combo live cds:
icake64-MX-23_x64-est-fFghisy.iso (2.3 Gb)
icake32-MX-23_386-est-fFghisy.iso (2.2 Gb)

(A) After bootup the live system, yon can activate the icake Chinese language pack by switching to super user (root):

1. open a terminal and type: sudo start; press enter

2. when ask for password, type: demo; press enter

3. choices for user interface language: [ English, Simplified Chinese or Traditional Chinese ]

4. choices for Chinese input method platform: [ fcitx, fcitx5, gcin, hime, ibus, scim or yong ]

So the maximum number of live systems that can be setup from any one of these combo cds is 21:
7 (Input Platforms) X 3 (User Interfaces) = 21

(B) The names of the remastered live combo iso contain the following information:
1. System architect:
icake64 - for 64 bit systems
icake32 - for 32 bit systems

2. English name of system used

3. Language for user interface
e - English
s - Simplified Chinese
t - Traditional Chinese

4. Chinese input platform used in deb(number of Chinese input methods inside):
f - fcitx (33)
F - fcitx5 (36/11 for 64/32 bit system)
g - gcin (16)
h - hime (10)
