Devuan pup only worked on vm for me unfortunately. It is the only linux cannot boot on bare metal. And it is sad since i like Devuan a lot. I should give this os another try tonight.
But what do you guys mean puppy linux is not linux ?
And why we have to use unetbootin or windows to load this os in uefi pc ?

you could try with viewtopic.php?t=10435.

to load the iso I use ventoy. but when starting ventoy you must select grub2.

Where do i select grub2 ?
Iso loads but stops because it cannot find something sfs i think ?
I ll try in a few minutes to see...

using ventoy you will see the devuanpup iso, when you select it it takes you to a grub that says normal and another grub2. there you must select grub2.

There was not such option except if i did something wrong with ventoy...

On the forum, in several threads over the years, We have published best practices in Ventoy use. Please find, at least one of them, and follow the Ventoy instructions on this forum. Those instructions are 'battle tested' and works for ALL forum distro. It is a best practices and once the USB in created can be used for years, trouble-free.

The best practices instructions intend to insure all facets of your forum distro works without issues. This includes saving of your forum distro's sessions..

Ask any/all Ventoy questions on those threads and members will assist any steps to insure success.

The instructions, when used, accommodates ALL PUPPY Forum distros.

"No more USB writing issues for forum distros, particularly".

Here's a quick summary of those instructions to start

  1. Create your Ventoy media from Ventoy's website "ventoy.net"

  2. Create a folder on its partition #1 called 'BOOTISOS'

  3. Place ALL forum ISO and IMG files in BOOTISOS.

  4. Boot this Ventoy media to boot all ISOs you added

Keep and Use this Ventoy USB forever!

Caveat (this does NOT apply to all other distros on the forum ... only WoofCE distros): All WoofCE distros MUST be booted from the SG2D ISO file you add to your Ventoy USB. Otherwise WoofCE distros WONT allow you to save your sessions. This reported booting and session-saving problem has been unresolved for couple years. Again, this ONLY applies to WoofCE distros...NOT any other forum distro.

Hello @josejp2424
Using bare-metal, SG2D launched v10 ISO file to desktop. Menu>Update Devuanpup seemingly does nothing. "apt update->apt update" cli commands were run instead.

While in the terminal, tested 'tldr' (not present) and 'findsmb' results in missing subsystem components

Code: Select all

┌──[ root@Devuanpup ] [ 02:40:24 ]
├── ~
└> uname -a
Linux Devuanpup 6.1.62 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Sun Nov 12 19:46:35 -03 2023 x86_64 GNU/Linux

┌──[ root@Devuanpup ] [ 02:22:15 ]
├── ~
└> findsmb

                            *=DMB
                            +=LMB
IP ADDR NETBIOS NAME WORKGROUP/OS/VERSION
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Can't do smbclient command.
┌──[ root@Devuanpup ] [ 02:22:36 ]
├── ~
└> smbclient -U%
Command 'smbclient' not found, but can be installed with:
apt install smbclient

tldr installed via package manager.

'smbclient' is a puzzler as almost every PUP over the past decade has smbclient OOTB. I did NOT install findsmb's missing component as I noticed that SAMBA server works so the missing component shown from findsmb confuses and I felt it best to ask here for review. Reason: I dont want samba components to get screwed up with incompatible versions of subcomponents. That's why I ask here for review.

Nice that this distro offers 3 ways to packages: APT, Synaptic, and PKG.

Otherwise other desktop tools are working without issues so far.
