Trying to use wine

Post by boof »

i have an old moto g5 plus phone, w android 8.1, and i hear of upgrades to 12. i want that too. i see no linuxable options, so i want to use wine, but can't get a working 64/32bit download. i have 32bit compatibility, the quickpet download just brings me to fossapup64/wine forum. i tried ppm, but only v5.0 avail, and only 64bit. that forum suggester using a 32bit wine. the wine development history page does not contain links to its pets, but i'll look up the pets listings for it. assistance is appreciated.

edit #1
downloaded wine 5.5 v4.1 for fossapup, and g4wine, in attempt to get wine-gui and get a command prompt or gui to work from, but typing <wine g4wine> produced nothing useful. g4wine.exe not found.

Mikewalsh's portable-Wine 5.11 from here, https://www.forum.puppylinux.com/viewto ... 191#p68191 works very well under F96-CE and provides both 32-bit and 64-bit Wine environments: i.e., you can run both 32 and 64 bit Windows programs. (But not all. I don't understand what you want to do: "i have an old moto g5 plus phone, w android 8.1, and i hear of upgrades to 12. i want that too. i see no linuxable options, so i want to use wine"???).

Unload your 32-bit compatibility SFS. It is neither needed and may conflict with using the following.

Just download the tar.xz and extract it. Move the extracted folder to you home partition. Make sure you have a working internet connection. Within the extracted folder will be a WINE-Link script. Left-Click it to download the necessary files and create links between the portable and your OS. See my opening post on that thread, https://www.forum.puppylinux.com/viewto ... 075#p68075 but skip down to the line which reads, "Left-Click the WINE-Link script." [What preceded that line explains how to use Wine AppImages other than the 5.11 Mike used in his build. Other than that, the thread has useful information you should read].

You'll also find in the extracted folder scripts to create menu entries; and to remove them and WINE-Link.

I don't think the information in this post, https://www.forum.puppylinux.com/viewto ... 468#p69468 is needed to associate 'exe' files with Wine under F96-CE.

mike sir,
thanks, that seems to fix it. still can't do phone-have to use unofficial android, not confident i have ability to do it, repair shops won't do it for me. bit like taking linux pc to an ms only store. v frustrating. i can't go far enuf to find a willing worker, as disabled-can't travel >5km one way without recharge for return [2hrs min].
