I have pny 16 gb 2.0 usb flash drive, and desktop
from 2009, that runs fine.
After installing puppy with different methods(
grub4dos with ext4 or fat, and uefi usb installer with fat32( installer says
it must be that format)
it’s always the same message when I start
computer ‘Urr! wee...’
Found out desktop doesn’t have/support uefi.
I’m using dvd drive to load puppy.
Could this be issue with either usb flash drive(either defect or too old) or usb ports?
I use those exact USBs and they're finnicky, don't even work on my 64 machine.
Yet if your system doesn't support UEFI, it's not the PNY problem.

I have windows 8 installed, then after that ubuntu 18.04, and then intalled kubuntu 20.04,
there is no place for more, and that's why I want puppy on usb flash drive.
bios doesn't have usb flash drive in the list but all other kinds of usbs, first when i plug in usb flash drive and press f12 it's detected, and then I choose from the list. it's detected as
hdd drive(not important).
To solve this issue I need understanding of how the things are done and working with boot proces, I don't know where to find it. to troubleshoot.
i cannot understand root of problem, is it grub loader? is it file system format? etc.
I have some screenshots when I installed it as grub4dos. I can go and use some other modern/new usb flash drive, but i don't think it's that. it might? should I try other usbs?
what if error is the same?

I am not sure if I can be of any help, but I would like to know the content of the file menu.lst.

Try this:
The menu.lst file on the USB.
Open it in a text editor.
In the entries look for pmedia=cd
Change this to pmedia=usbhd or pmedia=atahd or pmedia=usbflash
save change and reboot.
Could try to install to USB using one of these programs:

If the computer has a UEFI bios.
For Grub4dos boot loader to work.
In the UEFI setup, secure boot is disabled or legacy boot or CSM is enabled.

I've also had problems with Pny flash drives. But I have a suspicion your "wee" problem stems from having formatted it as Linux Ext4 using ubuntu 18.04 or kubuntu 20.04. Sorry I can't stick around waiting for your reply. But take a look at http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 565#965277

I installed it on sony 32 gb. Works right away.
I didn't expect it to be usb flash drive itself.
duno what is the error with pny, i did fsck, no errors were shown..
I did the exact install method with grub4dos in fat file system format.
the file menu.lst is the same on both sony and pny, it has pmedia=usbflash.
Now, on to making a usb drive bootable for laptop with uefi.
I'm switching gradually from ubuntu(kubuntu) to puppy.
Among many other things because of the awesome default theme and menus.
Now, on to making a usb drive bootable for laptop with uefi.
the one you have should boot OK if you make some setup changes to the UEFI bios.
Go into the UEFI setup.
Disable secure boot.
If it has the option. Enable legacy boot or enable CSM.
Doing this basically makes it work like the old style bios.
To boot with the UEFI in normal setup.
The only installer that can set it up properly is Frugalpup Installer.

Make sure to download the latest version.
frugalpup_20.sfs
Use it from a Running Puppy version and use Gparted in Puppy to do any partitioning and formatting.
It is a sfs package.
Download to /mnt/home
You load it by using SFS-load-on-the-fly program.
Will be in the menu->Setup
Setup the USB stick with 2 partitions.
First one, small 300MB, fat32 format, flagged boot. (location for boot loader files, boot partition)
Rest of drive, whatever other partition(s), but one ext3 or 4 format. (location to put frugal installs)
(this is UEFI standard requirement, and some computers, look for a fat32 partition, for boot loader files)
Run Frugalpup Installer main program.
On the main window are selection buttons.
Select the Puppy button, to do the install.
Go through install process, selecting to install to the ext formatted partition.
Note:
When selecting the partition to install to.
A window pops up, giving option to make a directory, to put the frugal install in.
I make this directory and usually name it, the name of the Puppy version.
Carefully read that windows info.
Press enter, makes the directory, not the OK button.
complete the install.
When it gets back to the main Frugalpup window.
Select the boot button.
Select the location of the frugal install, on the USB stick.
Select the small 300MB partition on the USB stick, as location to install the boot loader. (may need to scroll the selection window)
Select the boot loader type.
UEFI
mbr ->legacy bios boot
both
You can install the UEFI for UEFI computers, mbr for legacy bios computers, or both, to boot anything.
The UEFI will also install the needed files, to support secure boot enabled in UEFI.
When you first boot the USB stick, on a UEFI computer, with secure boot enabled.
A process will start, to allow you to install the Puppy security key, to the computer.
It will add this Puppy key, to the other ones, loaded on the computer.
Note:
Not all UEFI computers are the same, for booting from a USB stick.
Some may require secure boot disabled, CSM enabled, or legacy boot enabled, to be able to boot from a USB stick.
So, for those computers.
The mbr boot loader will work, because the UEFI bios, is basically in, legacy bios operation.
To put more frugal installs on the same USB stick.
Do the complete process again, for the new Puppy version.
When you run the boot loader install.
It will make entries, for all installs it finds, on the USB drive.

I too think your first USB boot problem is ext 4 64bit format.
Grub4dos can not work with it.
Puppy Linux Gparted program does ext 4 32bit formats.
You do not say what operating system you where running in when you did the first USB.
No info on what exact installer program you used or exactly how you did the install???
Could try to make the first USB work by doing an install to it using Frugalpup installer.

Yeah, I thought I would try the same sony usb puppy installation on laptop
(after disabling uefi). It works, logically.
Now I’m completely up and running with puppylinux, on all computers.
Everything that I need to do on/with computer and browsing the www,
it’s all breeze.
What a great system, what a great distro! I don’t need other systems.

I’ve tried to disable/enable some features in desktop bios.

I’ve used bionicpup32 from cd, to install on pny usb drive.
Started “PPM and UI”, then
I’ve choosed “BootFlash USB installer“ and then option “Create grub4dos USB”.
And then option “FAT partition + grub4dos”
Frugalpup is the thing!
