Hi @Linux_user44 :

The best choice is..."your choice", but for browsing the net and use internet resources I am using Vanilladpup 9.2.18.

I am using 7 distros depending on what I wanna do, but for internet....

https://archive.org/details/vanilladpup-9.2.18-64

As I told u consider it as a simple suggestion, try and choose.

Have a nice day and, please, share with us your final decission.

Cheers

9.2.x has reached its end-of-life, I'd recommend 9.3.x or 10.0.x from https://github.com/vanilla-dpup/releases instead. viewtopic.php?t=7656 shows a very long list of problems solved after 9.2.18.

@dimkr , I want to ask you about these versions. Are they easy to install??

I didn't try them because some time ago u told me I must use them from USB and I want to install them frugally.

Is this possible...and easy??

Thanks a lot for your help.

@Linux_user44

With your hardware you could run about any of the Puppy versions. I would recommend the new BookwormPup64 10.0.4 from here:
viewtopic.php?t=8690

You can also download and install extended help files that cover BookwormPup64 as well as details about Puppy Linux in general.

I don't know how you installed 9.2.18, but the same method should work.

Thanks a lot for your comments, but it doesn't work, so I continue with 9.2.18 because it is the best for me.

Today I spent /waste some hours trying to install 10.0.44 and I gonna tell u what happen.

I downloaded vanilladpup 10.0.44 and installed it into a USB using UniversalUSBinstaller (Winshit) and I boot using it.
It boots fantastic, but when I want to install it only offers the USB installation, so I follow your suggested procedure to update an installation.
I had installed vanilladput 2.9.18 so following your instructions, I changed/replaced the following archives:... vmlinuz, initrd.gz, ucode.cpio and .sfs form 10.0.44 to 9.2.18, I restarted, and everything looked fantastic but it was an ilusion, because my system hang on, blocked, .....

so I forgot 10.0.44 and continue with 9.2.18. It could be outdated, but for me and my needs (only the internet) it is marvellous.

Thanks a lot for all your help.

Have a nice day u all.

Yes, I agree. IF you want to discuss issues related to Vanilla DPup, please do so in the appropriate section. Consider this a first 'warning', because you're starting to make a habit of this.......and it just annoys/p***es-off those who are trying to get specific problems addressed.

Please desist!

I have been using Bookwormpup64 as my daily driver for at least couple of weeks and it performs very well. Highly recommended. If you want speed / quick desktop responses, stick with JWM in the base version. If you want to use the desktop a lot for moving files around the system and having files at hand on the desktop, LXDE drv performs perfectly with PCMANFM , which I cant say about LXDE Bionic64, Fossa64, or F96, unfortunately.

In addition, Imagemagick runs well, I use a QEMU appimage for virtualisation, mikewalsh's portables run well including Wine 5.11. I could go on...

I have been using Bookwormpup64

It's nearly identical (slightly behind in terms of updates and slightly heavier) compared to Vanilla Dpup 10.0.x, so it's unlikely to work if the latter doesn't.

Is a little off-topic posting a big sin nowadays ? Or am I missing something perhaps ?
(edit: expressing your annoyance is OK, but threaten to bannish goes to far IMO)
