pupsave backup error (SOLVED)

Post by pp4mnklinux »

Hello everybody:

I understand you have not a lot of info to solve this, but it is possible you can help me how to solve this problem:

Suddenly my pupsave backup utility finished working. I tryed to restart from the last back up , but this error appears there too.

Can you tell me how re-install this utility ?

Thanks a lot.

Excuse me, I can tell you more info, because I don't know what was I doing when it stopped working.

Is there enough free space in /mnt/home to store the backup?

Some of the Puppy programs, that do things like this, do not tell you specifically there is not enough free space.
You get the error you got.

What format is the partition that is /mnt/home?

How big would the backup save be?

Thatks for your answer @bigpup :

1.- There is enough space to copy the back up ( I tried with the default option and then I tried with other disks just to try... and nothing happened)

2,. The partition has the same format as the instalation...I made backups there before and there was no problem.

3.- I tried to copy directly the save file (.4fs) starting with other puppy linux distribution, and I cant copy it, it said... CAN SPLIT FILE... and the copy process finished.

I don't know where the problem is.... I tried a lot of things (changing the destination folder to other partition, to other disk , to usb, to external disk, to... but there is no solution) , it star copying the .4fs but when it copied about 400 Mb it says there is an error.

I don't know what happens

I can work with my distro, but i can't make a security copy,... so ¿=¿=??=

----edited.------

When I made a security copy compressed, it made it (I don't know if it works or not, but it finished the compressed copy with no problems.....)

My puppy is configured the way I want, so there is no real need t o make a backup, but I like to be prepared to future problems... haha)

What is the format???

I tried to copy directly the save file (.4fs) starting with other puppy linux distribution, and I cant copy it, it said... CAN SPLIT FILE... and the copy process finished.

That tells me the format is maybe fat32 and the save file is bigger than 4GB (max file size for fat32 format).

Yeah.... FAT 32... COPY 4.9 Gb

I CAN TRY TO DELETE .temp AND other unuseful files to made the file smaller....

Solved.

There was a problem with the save file and its backups (with this save file I can't copy without errors and I can't save modifications) and what I did was start my puppy without save file, It creates a new one and with this save file I can copy other backups I had.

So althoug I didn't recover all my programs, I only lost 1 working day installing the last software and recovering some documents (But I must recognize that I spent hours trying to recover the last image, till I decided to use this method.... (clean start).

Thanks a lot for your help, but in the end, the best the easier.

Tomorrow I'll start with DarkPuppy to test how it works and as I said I think it is really interesting.

Have a nice day... AND NIGHT...haha.

CHEERS.

Yes.

If the save file backup is 4.9GB in size.

Put the save backup file on a partition that is formatted in something other than fat32.
Any other format should work. (ntfs, ext 3 or 4)
