Donations via german girocard (=debitcard) not accepted by paypal?

I am looking into it. It appears that it is possible to use a Deutsche Girocard if you have a German PAYPAL account but it is somewhat unclear why it will not work when choosing credit or debit card when reaching the main Donation Page on the PAYPAL portal as a guest.

Are you logged into the forum when you try to donate? I have activated enabling guests on the forum to donate without logging in to see how that impacts usage from Deutschland.

I don't have an account at paypal (for reasons), so logging into paypal account is not an option.
But i'm not asked to log in at all, so it should not matter.

I don't think it has to do with the forum software at all. It fails at paypals form when entering my card number.
Looks like it is not recognized as a debit card.

I see what you mean. I did run across some information on a forum that the some of the Girocard account or card number format is different than what PAYPAL is looking for. By using the card number and adding a dash before the last 2 zeros some were able to use the Girocard successfully. Also left off the first set of digits...becasue the length of the card number string is 12 or has to be 12 digits long.

Some information I ran across, though it still isn't clear:

There are a few ways for Girocards to be used to make online payments. One option is to use payment services or apps, such as PayPal or Klarna, that accept the Girocard. With this option, the payment is processed via the relevant customer account, enabling the Girocard to be used.

I wish I could find that post on PayPal community forums that explained how the card number could be formatted for PayPal.
