Puppy's default mail software... Why not BlueMail ?

Post by pp4mnklinux »

Hello everybody:

I worked with online mail (gmail, outlook), software like SYLPHEED, clawsmail, THUNDERBIRD... but nowadays some users recomend me BLUEMAIL https://snapcraft.io/bluemail .

Did any of u use it? What is your oppinion? Could it be a good option to be installed in puppy ??

One reason for it to not be included in a Puppy version.

It's licensing.

License

Proprietary

It is not under any GPL licensing.

Also, it is offered in pay to use versions.

No issue if you want to download, install, and use it.

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.
When I was a kid, I wanted to be older.
This is not what I expected :o

BlueMail web site:
https://bluemail.me/

This may be the best way to download it for Puppy Linux.
https://download.bluemail.me/BlueMail/deb/BlueMail.deb

This worked in Bookworm Pup64 10.0.3

Did have to edit the bluemail.desktop file in /usr/share/applications/

To get it to show up in the menu and run when clicked on.

Change Categories= to Email

Add --no-sandbox to end of Exec=

Code: Select all

[Desktop Entry]
0=B
1=l
2=u
3=e
4=M
5=a
6=i
7=l
8=
9=%
10=u
Name=BlueMail
Exec=/opt/BlueMail/bluemail %U --no-sandbox
Terminal=false
Type=Application
Icon=bluemail
StartupWMClass=BlueMail
Comment=BlueMail email client
MimeType=x-scheme-handler/me.blueone.linux;x-scheme-handler/mailto;x-scheme-handler/me.blueone.linux;
Categories=Email;

Sorry, but I cannot see the making of ANY snap, or flatpack, or even an appimage, default on ANY Pup. I'm sure there are many others,
like myself who do not care to use snap or flatpack, for one reason or another, or more.
