email address of members
Somewhere on this forum rockedge and others were saying something about members being able to send emails to other members without permission. I couldn't find the thread and don't know the answer, but did come across the following phpBB-related thread (which may not contain the answer either but does discuss similar issues):

wiak you can hide the option so other users can't send you emails in the User Control Panel under Global Settings.

Re: email address of members
I am looking into the exposed email problems reported. There is always the option of turning off all email functions if the issue can not be addressed.

Re: email address of members
As far as I've been able to determine, this is no longer an issue. Can someone else please try to send an email to me and see what happens?

Re: email address of members
Clicking your user name doesn't give any option to send email. Sending a private message is the only option available/visible.

taersh I think one can individually control whether or not one can receive email from the User Control Panel.
User Control Panel -> Board Preferences -> Users can contact me by email:

Yes, I know this. I have disabled this in my preferences/settings as it was enabled by default.

Re: email address of members
If I remember correctly, the old forum was set to show email addresses as well (it's one of the reasons I always look for any options to disable it when I create a forum account, now), but John was able to set it to default to not showing them.
I don't know if his solution worked for all users, or just for new users from that point, because after a quick search on phpbb's site, it looks like it may only be turned off for all new users that register after the change is made, such as with this: Hide user email addresses by default

Re: email address of members
This seems to be how to control it.
I clicked on several of the other posters in this topic.
Email was not an option to contact them.
rockedge has email as a contact selection.
So, I assume he has his personal settings Control Panel -> Board Preferences -> Users can contact me by email:
