I did a new frugal install of this latest KLA-OT2baseCE-2.9. There is a minor issue, which was also occurring in 2.7, but it was easily overcome. The touchpad is disabled after booting. I changed the Touchpad Toggle script to not be executable, which rectified the issue.

This is a brilliant release. Thank you.

With the touchpad as intended, it is disabled by default by a script on boot /root/Startup/touchpad_toggle .
to enable it, I assign it to a hot key, it is convenient to enable and disable it .
the same script is in /usr/local/bin and if you register on the hotkey on the one that is convenient for you, you can enable and disable as needed :)

@Sofiya KLA-OT2 has been my favourite releases over the last year. I was wondering whether an updated release or release of the plug file was possible to allow regular refresh. I did a couple of updates early and even created an sfs of the upper changes directory following some software installs. I now feel there is too much outside the base release. I would like to continue to use this with a fresh release.

Thanks in advance for any consideration

I think @TerryH has a good point. Enable it on boot, while the toggle will work to turn if off should it be desired.

Hope this is viewed as helpful. NO disrespect to the developer;

P.S. There may be a downside that I am overlooking!

If I understand you correctly, you want an image with updates for today .
for this you need to update "07KLA-OT2baseCE-2.9.sfs" .
1. You need my plugin to build "attached below" - place the plugin in the folder where all KLA-OT2 files are located and replace the plugin with mine
2. in the same folder open terminal
3. enter in terminal ./build_firstrib_rootfs.sh arch default amd64 f_00_Arch_amd64-openboxBASE_jgmenu_600r5.plug
4. after the build is complete to package "firstrib_rootfs" into "07KLA-OT2baseCE-3.0.sfs"
5. type in terminal mksquashfs 07firstrib_rootfs 07KLA-OT2baseCE-3.0.sfs -noappend -comp xz -b 512k
6. change "07KLA-OT2baseCE-2.9.sfs" to "D07KLA-OT2baseCE-2.9.sfs"
7. reboot the system.
8. remove old version "D07KLA-OT2baseCE-2.9.sfs"

note:
if you don't succeed, I'll put together an updated ISO for YOU

@TerryH there is also the method of a Psuedo Full Install to build a fresh system, @rockedge describes it here: viewtopic.php?p=95872#p95872

That is excellent, thank you. It built without issue. I'll now look at some minor changes to customize for myself.

@Clarity
We have moved to a new level by allowing the user to update and compile KL himself at any time. Since the image becomes outdated over time and cannot be updated. I also want to note that storing ISO images requires a place to place them, which I do not have.

Initial ISO file download and boot emerges beautifully!

Code: Select all

qemu-system-x86_64 -name "KLA-OT2CE V3.0 by Sofiya" -enable-kvm -m 2G -vga virtio -smp 2 -device AC97 -net nic -net user -rtc base=localtime -cdrom KLA-OT2baseCE-3.0.iso

Problems exist with ISO file boot launchers. ISO file not successfully booting to desktop.

This statement indicates that tests with launching the ISO file from both, individaully, Ventoy and SG2D fails with traps.

Not sure why, but it seems to not be finding something before trapping. This does NOT happen launching the ISO file in QEMU.

Environment

  • Intel i7 4th generation

  • 8GB RAM

  • nvidia HDMI

  • ISO file v3.0 in BOOTISOS folders

  • Ventoy USB (1st test)

  • SG2D CD (2nd test)

Should be simple to replicate

That usually just means the iso boot/grub/grub.cfg, menu.lst and loopback.cfg hasn't been set up appropriately. These need to be correct to allow Ventoy, and SGD2 to boot.

I don't know if the iso has been updated since my previous post, but I downloaded, and though I haven't tried with Ventoy yet, the boot/grub/grub.cfg and so on look perfectly correct to me so I'm surprised if they don't boot. I'll copy the iso to a recent Ventoy usb stick I have and try it and report back. I only try with Ventoy bare metal and don't mix with Qemu, though that also worked last time I tried something similar.

Booted fine using Ventoy for me. Posting from it now, and even using RAM2 save on demand mode to a partition labelled "Persistence" which is also working fine with Ventoy boot, so I can't confirm your issues @Clarity

Thanks @wiak

I will review my steps again and check for some environmentals that I might have.; as I have been wrestling with these 2 HDMI PCs for a month along with an Intel NUC which I got bogus products shipped via eBay that I am addressing as well.

@Sofiya I will get back as soon, later today, as I can.

The Ventoy version I am using is v1.0.96 and SG2D's ISO is using GRUB2 v2.06 with the ISO file in a BOOTISOS folder on the Ventoy USB and a Persistence partition on the system drive. I took the default 1st boot stanza in all tests.
