No sound from 32-bit Xenialpup (S/PDIF over coax)

Post by JamieM »

This is for latest 32-bit Xeialpup(download 11/02/2023) running of a USB CD-ROM on a penitum 4. My issue is I have no sound. I am using S/PDIF over COAX. I will attach my mscw.report.txt.
1. Run Xenialpup
2. Enable "S/PDIF" in ALSA Mixer and turn up the "S/PDIF" volume slider(can't remember the exact name but I can check)
-> This makes "PCM" show up on the decoder(which is normal when sound is going to play over S/PDIF)
4. Run the sound test(though the control panel)

2. Expected result:
Sound plays when doing the sound test.

3. Actual result:
No sound players in the sound test

4. Environment: This includes:

OS version
Don't know but can check.
application version

other possibly relevant information (for example, if you’re seeing graphics artifacts )
Again will attach mscw.report.txt

@JamieM - Welcome to the kennels. There's usually a response to requests within a day or so, so it seems there's not much experience with your problem. Most modern 64 bit puppies now use pulseaudio etc, whereas folk using 32bit usually use default alsa analogue. Xenialpup was originally released 6 years ago, so a newer pup (Bionicpup?) or newer kernel may give you better results, although a Pentium 4 pc will limit your options. Sorry I can't offer you more help.

Fair enough. The machine in question stopped working and needs repairs.(not a biggy it was a "toy" machine for running legacy software)
