use a very old DebianDog again

This change of messages gave to examine and search with pleasure DebianDog and I found an remaster app in /usr/share/applications. Now it has made 2 XZM. 1 remaster.xzm and 1 remastered.xzm.
How do I make a new ISO out of it?
How do you start with a grub?
How do I install Frugal on another computer?

Just get the missing files from the original iso. You might need to use Debian live (version 2 iirc) boot instead of porteus boot which we all use now.

Do you know what version it originally was?

Almost all of them are in archive.org.

If they aren't, I have a lot of the really old stuff.

In 10 years things have changed very much (and improved), now the stable Debian is Bookworm, IMO not very realistic to expect clear answers or upgrades for such old version (Jessie, I think), to be honest.
(do you still use the same tooth brush from 10 years ago? I guess not ).
Anyway, extension should not be .xzm, must be .squashfs .

If I right remember, the version name is given somewhere (probably at booting time: Linux says often which version is starting. But, if I right remember, I have not that version but the neighbour version in one collection of 12 or 13 CD's (this was 3.1 from Lehmanns, but in 32 bit binaries and my DebianDog old version is a 64 bit and I have no compatibility set! The world is very hard... . DebianDog64 was to early or my 32 bit 3.1 was to late!).

just rename with extension .squashfs should be enough.

What I perhaps would do in your situation (but can not look over your shoulder and cannot test the setup you have) is to rename your main .squashfs in 0deb64/live directory (add .bak (back it up) e.g. to 01-filesystem.squashfs.bak and copy your remastered file renamed to 01-filesystem.squashfs to your 0deb64/live directory.
This must be done from another Linux, e.g. Puppy or ...
Then reboot and see if it boots and works ok, if not, you can restore by undo-ing above.
Must say again, Jessie is very old (I think that is your Debian version) (I liked the DD Jessie very much at that time btw, it was last Debian version without the "must have systemd", ISO very small, all nice and simple ! Personally, now we are in 2023, I'm a fan of the Devuan system)
