not enough USB ports

Post by boof »

i have 6, 1kbd 1 mouse, 1 printer, i wifi, and a flashdrive. if i could hook kbd nd mouse intovnormal wifi that woud free 2 ports., apparently none of these devices operate thru a powered sharing time multiplexed external hub, or is that my error? for now i need separate printer and scanner, so they can't be interrupted, neither the wifi, that leaves the memory stick, the mouse and kbd. only the memory stick might safely share. it has the OS, chrome on it, and a backup save file. i note that grub2 does not multi boot i'll have to have a grub for dos partition, cascading into a grub2 partition for fossapup, and directly to bionicup or similar.

Hi:

I don't know what could be the problem, I'm using 12 USB ports (8 of them temporary, in spite of the needs) and I have no problem with them.

They work as hell.. jeje.

@boof GRUB2 multi-boots. You must have something else going on.

AND, if you dont have enough ports on the PCs, we merely get a USB hub that allows multiple USB devices like keyboards, mouse, printers, storage to plub into the hub and the hub has 1 wire that plugs into the PC. Thus you end with many more USB ports ADDED to the PC, thanks to the hub, than is usually built into a PC.

Here's a diagram for your review.

Just get an add on USB hub to add more ports.

But do get one that has it's own power supply.

Try to plug it into the speediest USB port of the computer.

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.

This is not what I expected :o

And a USB v3 hub would be an excellent choice.
