Post by abdel557 »

i want to know what is the best puppy linux version best for these specifications :
Nom de l'appareil Packard-PC

Type du système Système d’exploitation 64 bits, processeur x64
Stylet et fonction tactile La fonctionnalité d’entrée tactile ou avec un stylet n’est pas disponible sur cet écran

i tried fossapup but it doesnt have many compatibilites , and only an old wine version , as i tried to run a windows only browser in it and it didnt work , i need that browser and i want to run an old game in it if possible with lutris etc....

We only know what you tell us.

This is no real information in this statement by you.

What exact version of Fossapup? The exact name of the ISO will tell us.

What specific compatabilities?

What Windows only browser?

What specific games?

There are a lot of games ported to Linux.

For lutris in Fossapup64 9.5 see this post:
viewtopic.php?p=3871#p3871

For Wine
Get a version from this topic:
viewtopic.php?t=103

Because Fossapup64 9.5 is getting kind of old.

You may want to try using a newer Puppy version like:
Bookworm pup64 This has apt for getting software and is based on Debian Linux.
F96-CE
Vanilla Dpup
Etc........

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.
When I was a kid, I wanted to be older.
This is not what I expected :o

Wine and Lutris should be easy to install:

Code: Select all

dpkg --add-architecture i386
apt update
apt install wine wine32 lutris

@abdel557 :- Hallo.....and :welcome: to the "kennels".

Mm. Mm-hm..... Flash games, huh? And Windows browsers.....

You need to be aware that for a multitude of reasons, very few Windows browsers will run under Linux. Doesn't matter if you use WINE, Lutris, PlayonLinux, whatever.....only a few of the 'zilla-based browsers will sometimes "play ball", and even then they're not very stable.

There ARE better ways to still play Flash games. You're certainly not the only one who enjoys such things!

-------------------------------------------

There's the FlashPoint Project from BlueMaxima. This is basically an archive of every Flash game the devs were able to download and save before Adobe's Jan 1 2020 deadline hit......and also includes built-in players. It's become a huge project.....but the beauty of this is that you ONLY download stuff if, as & when you want to play it.

https://flashpointarchive.org/

-----------------------------------------

There's Ruffle. This is a modern Flash Player emulator that runs in the browser. Some Linux users have reported success with it, though it's still in very early 'beta' ATM.

https://ruffle.rs/

-----------------------------------------

There's also the "Flash Player Emulator 2023" extension for the Chrome browser. I use this myself occasionally. It DOES work.

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/deta ... efkfbigcej

---------------------------------------

Just a few suggestions, to help make you aware that there ARE plenty of available alternatives.

Mike. ;)

Here is the Linux version of FlashBrowser
https://github.com/radubirsan/FlashBrow ... /tag/v0.01

I got it running in Bookworm Pup64

Download the https://github.com/radubirsan/FlashBrow ... ux-x64.zip

UN-compress it into a folder that contains all the files.

You can place this folder in /opt directory in the working file system

There are two exec files that need to be given exec permission.
chrome-sandbox
FlashBrowser

With Rox file manager showing the contents of the UN-compressed folder.
Right click on each one of these files and select properties.
There you can select exec permissions
Select refresh so change is made.

Here is a script file I made that will launch FlashBrowser
Place it in the folder with the rest of the files.
Left click on it to run FlashBrowser.

flashbrowser.gz
remove fake .gz from name to use it. had to add fake .gz so it will attach to post
(69 Bytes) Downloaded 13 times

It will download with no execute permission. so need to give it exec permission also.

You can drag and drop this file on the desktop to click on to run Flash Browser.

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.

+1 for bigpup. I had booted into Bionicpup64 which couldn't run the linux version. So looked for alternatives and wrote the following below the -=-=---=-=-== line. But had to break for 'breakfast' during which it occurred to me that you might also be able to use the flashplayer extension to Google-Chrome or any Chromium-based web-browsers. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/deta ... pblmhefngh.

You'll find links to Mikewalsh's Google-Chrome and several chromium-clones as mentioned below. All will run under fossapup64.
-=-=---=-=-==
I checked at https://www.winehq.org/search?q=flash+browser which revealed no information about 'flash-browser' and discouraging reports about 'flash'. Are you sure 'flash-browser' will run under Wine?
There's a native Linux version of 'flash-browser' available on github, https://github.com/radubirsan/FlashBrow ... ux-x64.zip published in September 2021 and noted as experimental. I downloaded it. It's based on 'electron', the core component of Chromium/Google-Chrome web-browsers. Unpacked the zip. Trying to start it by its executable --Flashbrowser-- from a terminal generates a report 'permission denied'. As its based on electron it will likely need to be started via a script with either the command 'no-sandbox' or 'run-as-spot'. You can download mikewalsh's google-chrome, https://mega.nz/folder/HDZElDQK#bbkJFR0QPA3q13JbEnAN6g and see how that's accomplished.

Which brings me to suggest that if you are interested in running Puppies it's best that your orient yourself as to how they function. While bigpup's suggestion to use a newer Puppy is to be considered, that doesn't always solve the problem and Puppys are designed to enable their use for a long time by updating components and applications.

The repositories Fossapup64 will access are several years old. The wine-version you may have obtained by Menu>Setup>Quickpet dates to September 20, 2020. You'll find many newer applications for it on this thread, https://www.forum.puppylinux.com/viewto ... 8980#p8980. In particular, grey has published many games there.

Additionally, fossapup64 can run many applications you'll find in the Additional Software Section, https://www.forum.puppylinux.com/viewforum.php?f=7. Take particular notice of the many portable applications Mikewalsh has published. AFAIK, fossapup64 --and all newer Puppys-- can run all of them. A complete list of his publications with links to the applications is here, https://www.forum.puppylinux.com/viewto ... 734#p48734.

One of them is a much newer version of Wine, albeit, version 5.11. The link to it will take you here, https://www.forum.puppylinux.com/viewto ... 191#p68191. Unfortuhately, it would not run the flash-browser.exe I downloaded. But, as explained here, https://www.forum.puppylinux.com/viewto ... 075#p68075, the portable makes use of a Wine AppImage. So you can download the latest Wine AppImage and use it and the framework package from that link to build a portable using the most current Wine-AppImage.

Alternatively, WineHq reports that google-chrome has a platinium (very good) rating even under version 5 of Wine, https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager. ... ion&iId=81. Flash-browser is available as an extention to Google-Chrome.

In all honesty, although I've got this up-and-running as a 'portable', it's extremely limited in what it can actually do. Yes, it can play SWF files natively - I've got a couple I've used as 'test' files for long enough. But it doesn't even possess basic zoom capability.....and for long enough, native 100% zoom level on a 22", 1920x1080 monitor is so tiny I can hardly read it.

My recommendation? Give this a miss, and use a mainstream browser with a FlashPlayer extension.

@mikeslr :-

Don't believe everything you read in the WineHQ database, Mike. They've been saying Chrome is functional under the last several versions of WINE; in practice, and from experience, I can categorically state that the only Windows browsers that will run under WINE are 'zilla-based ones. And even those are not very stable.

Chromium 'clones' can't even install. The installer crashes, so what hope is there of actually running them?

T'other Mike. :o
