Using Sound Recorder - error message appears

Hello all and "woof"!
I wanted to use 'sound recorder' with a USB microphone to make an audio file of my melliferous voice.

I began here: menu -> multimedia -> sound recorder -> <click!>
I got an error message - as you can see further down.
Going to the sound-recorder web-page (for help) I discovered I should see this sound-recorder window.

Instead, <horror!> I saw this:

Any tips that might help me make a simple recording? What information should the dreaded error message convey to my ever-alert mind?
What is a 'pipeline'?

Some additional info: Using the terminal, with 'find' command I can't find a file beginning with 'sound*' in /bin or /usr/bin
"Which" sound-recorder finds nothing. Ditto for: 'soundrecorder' and 'sound'.
I see a file: /usr/include/sound.
When I use PupSysInfo, I see a microphone connected to a USB port.

That's all the help I can give at this moment. Any clues for the clueless? I'm stuck.

Is the Puppy BionicPup64 by 666phil or some other Pup?
I am not familiar with that sound recorder, where did you obtain it from?
I think the pipeline error suggests it is not finding alsa, maybe looking for pulse or pipewire which is not present in system. If there is a preferences window you might be able to fix that by changing a setting.

For simple audio recordings you might be able to use mhWaveEdit. My favourite tool is always pRecord (Precord) which you should find in the forums somewhere if not included in the Pup.

If using a USB microphone, this will probably appear as a different sound-card (USB soundcard device) so you will need to make sure that this is correctly selected as the input device in the recorder's settings.

Things under /usr/include will be headers, not executable files so not significant.

If there is a menu entry, there should be a .desktop file so open that as text to see the executable file name on the "Exec= " line.
Looks like executable name may be gnome-sound-recorder ?

Please provide the exact name of the Puppy version ISO, so we understand the exact Puppy version you are using.

I found sound recorder here, on the main menu:
-> Menu (desktop, lwr LH corner) -> multimedia - sound-recorder -> <click>!

Using the command interpreter (CI) I got this info:
# find / -iname 'gnome-sound-recorder'

OR # which 'gnome-sound-recorder'

Using the help option --help, I see:

# gnome-sound-recorder --help-all

My comment: I don't understand that help message. Specifically I don't understand 'according to the ES6 standard. I'm out of my depth here.

For the moment: I will try mhWaveEdit - as you suggest.
Can I suggest we suspend further action on this thread until I try your suggestion?

Following your suggestion to use mhWaveEdit - I found this file in the menu:
Menu -> Multimedia -> mhWaveEdit -> <click>!

ОК - Found the record button - was able to record "hash".
My guess: The microphone I have (USB connector) is not connected to the recording device.
I presume the microphone should plug into the pink 3.5mm socket on the PC case?
I'm using a desktop box, not a laptop.
I'll experiment with different microphone connections - esp the pink connector on the rear panel. Then I'll report my work. This may take one or two days. Please be patient.
