In Firefox have you done this?

You can always turn DRM playback on again by opening the Firefox Preferences General panel and, under Digital Rights Management (DRM) Content, putting a check mark next to Play DRM-controlled content. After checking the checkbox, HTML5 DRM playback will be re-enabled and the Google Widevine CDM will download automatically.

Under add-ons->Plugins Widevine content is always active is selected?
You may need to restart Firefox after activating the Widevine addon.

Or is your problem you now have no sound from Firefox?

What specific DRM provider site are you accessing?

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.

I tried that web site using Firefox 82.0.2 64bit and Widevine 4.10.1582.2
It is working for me.

You are using 32bit Firefox.
Does it play any sound from any location?
YouTube?

From that iview.abc.net.au web site support.
To ensure that your browser is set up to accept cookies from third parties.

Mozilla Firefox

Click on the three horizontal lines in the top right corner of your browser.
In the Options menu, click on Privacy and Security.
Make sure Standard is selected.

I will boot up upupbb32-8.0 and see if it is working for me.
Using Firefox 82.0.2 sfs from Applications->Internet->Get Web Browser
In Firefox Preferences Digital Rights Management (DRM) Content
Play DRM-controlled content selected.
iview.abc.net.au videos and sound working for me.
Note:
Widevine got auto added to Firefox add-ons when I first tried to play a video.

Widevine has precisely zero to do with audio playback.

All Widevine does is to allow you to access DRM-protected multimedia streams. Many providers do this to protect the content they stream to you, often tying this in to a subscription of some kind for accessing their content.

Do you have sound in any other applications on your system.....such as an audio player, for instance, or any multimedia player such as VLC or SMPlayer?

Failing that, go into Menu->Setup->Alsa Sound Wizard, then click on the button for "Play test sound". Does Puppy go 'woof-woof'? If she does, then your audio works, and this is a simple case of re-configuring Widevine.

When you say 'Banned status', can you provide more details? Have you had a message on-screen from your content provider to this effect? We only know what you tell us; remember, we're not standing there, looking over your shoulder. The more information you can provide, the better chance we stand of being able to provide help...

Is this a subscription service? Has your subscription run-out?

I can't test the channel myself, since it tells me content is unavailable outside Australia.....and I don't bother with VPNs.

Mike. ;)

Widevine pet package

Post by gjuhasz »

I noticed that some non-Puppy users also have issues with playing DRM protected videos.
They also report sound issues in Firefox, and refer to various error messages in Chromium, Iron, etc., - try googling "linux widevine problem".

Armed with the latest 64-bit Chrome, Iron, Slimjet, and Firefox browsers smartloaded in Puli7.3, I visited Netflix and sadly recognized that only Chrome could play the movies without any problem.

Finally, I found a workaround and assembled a Widevine64p.pet package. Successfully tested with the above listed browsers.
Downloadable from my https://sourceforge.net/projects/puppys ... /packages/ folder.

Please note that this is a Puli specific package. However, it can be easily tailored for other puplets.

Have fun!

Regards,

gjuhasz
