This is a pretty cool idea. I have liked what I've seen of Slitaz.

Re: TazPuppy 5.0 RC12 (Slitaz-based Puppy hybrid)
Used to be an SliTaz user and that thing was blazing fast on a 1.5 GHz laptop so it would be really interesting and exciting to see a puppy version. Will keep an eye for an updated download link as I also could not download

This is an old release, there hasn't been a release in 2 1/2 years, so it would be unlikely. It was, however a very nice puppy to use.

I remember checking this post out way back sometime, and now reading it again, I'm super interested in it. It seems like a big innovation.

2.5 years is not that old. I would still try it if theres a way to get it.

Thanks @ally - It's just like how I remembered it. Still fast booting. Having some weird issue with my mouse though. Once I stop moving it for some odd reason it freezes. Also, package manager crashes after I update/upgrade it. But I'm posting from it right now using its Midori browser Maybe with a little tweak, it will be a solid performer again. I downloaded the tazpup-5.0-alpha-18.iso by the way

TazPuppy 5.0 RC12 (Slitaz-based Puppy hybrid)
@jp734 , @geo_c , @zzii30
Hello
The download link TazPup was broken it was flagged by Google as suspicious. Fortunately, @ally make an archive of TazPuppy. Right now this TazPuppy project was currently frozen because of slow movement on Slitaz upstream. I will release an updated version of TazPuppy once the upstream looks fine.

I actually downloaded and tried to boot the last release in the archive, but I was having problems getting the boot stanzas right. I think I got it to load the kernel and then it would hang on the initrd, maybe something to do with .xz compression as opposed to .gz, and I tried changing the boot stanza made by frugalpup to reflect the initrd.xz, but I didn't get it right apparently.

Just unxz the initrd and compress it again as gz.

That's strange @geo_c. This is what I have and it boots just fine. Maybe a problem with the download? Also, I downloaded tazpup-5.0-alpha-18.iso
Code: Select all
menuentry 'tazpup on (sdb1/ext4)'{
search --no-floppy --set=root --fs-uuid 26d69ba6-f274-4bc8-a621-8f0353ebdd27
linux /tazpup/vmlinuz root=uuid=26d69ba6-f274-4bc8-a621-8f0353ebdd27 psubdir=/tazpup pmedia=atahd
initrd /tazpup/initrd.xz
}

I'm was using efi grub2, so the stanza is a lot more complicated, at least the one frugalpup generates. I'll give another go eventually, probably not today though.

Hmm - A bit confused on what's the difference between grub and grub2 stanzas. I installed and currently using grub2 but my approach to adding a menu entry for any distro hasn't changed. That TazPup stanza I shared with you, I added that manually to grub2 created grub.cfg

Yeah, you're right, your stanza is grub2. The frugalpup generated stanza has a lot if
statements oriented around cpio, and stuff like that. I'll try your stanza which is more straight forward.
