I'll test it on January 2024.

Fantastic idea write in the conky the keyboard shortcuts (I will apply it to my F96CE_XFCE_FUSILLI and I'll forget notebooks, haha).

My sincere congrats, it really interests me.

Thanks for sharing.

If u are not very busy, can u post what is the included software?)

---- edited----

Please, can you explain me why do you upload ISOs to easyupload if they automatically delete uploads 30 days after host them there? Is it not better to upload them to a permanent host llike sourceforce? Has it faster downloads? 🤔

Thanks a lot. Have a nice day

Thank you for your feedback. It is very much appreciated.

1. Preinstalled apps (mostly the latest versions)

AnyDesk, balenaEtcher, BleachBit, ccrypt, Chrome, Chrome on-demand updater (Phil's), CloneZilla (clone many targets at once), croc, easyDD, Edge,
FadeIn, Firefox, Flameshot, GVim, LibreWolf, nicOS-Utility-Suite, PC Man, pCloud, ProtonVPN, QEMU, Remmina, Ventoy, Vim, Wireshark

2. Last time I checked, sourceforge's file size is limited and easyupload.io is not but time-limited (I must reupload and relink every 30 days)

Since one of the Mikes said "every distro out there looks the same", I decided to make DARKPUPPY look 'not' the same.
The dinosaur-like monster aka 'start button' has been shot down. "Find 'n Run" is the NEW start button:

Don't wanna lock the entire screen but individual window?
Use xlockmore's latest 'window lock' (Win+spacebar and click on the target). Look at Vim's locked window below

Code: Select all

The dinosaur-like monster aka 'start button' has been shot down. Findnrun is the NEW start button:

I'll check it out.

xlunch is a good program for menu button elimination too. @rockedge uses it to I think, or at least used to

Still use it! It is featured built in on KLV-Airedale and works well on KLV-Spectr.

Also used it on Bionicpup's and now on F96-CE_4. I'll have to go and use pSearch and look around for all the info collected on xLunch :geek:

A tip on freevpn.me

An additional free no-account-necessary European-based VPN service (but the password changes every month or two, sometimes longer).

Here's how to renew the password:

  1. Copy the latest password from the site
  2. Replace the old one in fv file under OscarTalks' /etc/vpn-onoff folder
  3. Run the free VPN with CTRL+1 and then check the status via ProtonVPN's icon on the system taskbar

You can also test the new speed, IP address, etc at...
https://fast.com
Hit the Show more info button.
Under Latency, the Client should display Amsterdam, NL or nearby.

As I get older, colder, and closer to death, I learn that:

1. "Complexity is impressive, but simplicity is genius"
2. Reign comes from above

That's my philosophy behind the 'black Puppy of the family'.

Thank you for uploading DARKPUPPY to SourceForge and for your kind pm.
I just wanted to get this baby out the door so I could get back to writing asap.

Hello @sonny

Took a look, today, by booting the ISO file via SG2D. I did try via Ventoy, but it stalls.

Few questions

  • This distro does NOT have a version number. Will it be ongoing, by versions?

  • The familiar taskbar of a PUP is not present. Am I missing a key to bring it up?

  • Your picture in your opening post shows shutdown-processing. Which hot-key did you use to raise that?

Thanks for your work, thus far.

Clare, thank you for your note. It is very much appreciated.

  1. For some reason, DARKPUPPY's own QEMU won't run fossapup64-9.5 iso and LMDE iso has an issue when playing sound
  2. I took down the 'Godzilla' for good and replaced it with 'CairoDock + Find 'n Run + shortcut menu (right-click) + shortcuts. Also applied the system-wide 'look 'n feel' with WhiteSur GTK dark theme and icons
  3. To exit or 'walk out', click on the icon on the dock's far left. Or simply press Win+X. Every task takes less clicks and keys without feeling lost wherever you are

That's why it's "the black sheep of the Puppy family".

Note: Since I'm a perfectionist, I'll try to keep DARKPUPPY updated as regular and as long as I can

Hi @sonny

It is not the same disposition, and it is not configured using the conky (I must modify two files to include the shortcuts for some software, so I decided to write them directly on the wallpaper, haha).

As I said, good work with DarkPuppy, but I suggest you to include a software called PLANK, to use it as an apple like bar, haha.

I used it and you can put it transparent so the presentation gonna be improved...(I think).

Good idea change the menu, I used your idea with APPFINDER, collapsed and normal (acces from the taskbar and with two shortcuts).

Thanks for your ideas.- Have a nice day

pp4mnklinux, you have one of the biggest hearts in this kennel. I wish everyone were like you.

DARKPUPPY is my definition of EASE & PRODUCTIVITY.

EASE = everything is laid out in front of you, no guesswork, no start button/menu/submenu browsing & guessing, never feeling 'lost' on your own desktop; from beginners to veterans

PRODUCTIVITY= 'less fuss, more fun', fewer clicks and keys to get the job done, minimum maintenance (updates)

I'm having trouble with the ISO. I tried to download it more than once. In DD, where .iso's can always be mounted and opened with the fiiemnt command on right click, it fails with an error. In MX, the archiver extracted it, but all the files were all caps.

I haven't tried in puppy, but I don't think it's me.

I flashed the ISO with Rufus so far.
If you can help me repack the ISO, it would be nice.

It's probably some setting when you make the ISO.

I'll try to figure it out later if someone else doesn't come by with the answer.

Hello everybody:

I didn't test it completely, but I installed it on a usb using Universal Installer (from Windows) and no problem for me, I chose install another ISO, I searched for it, I formated the usb with fat32 and it is recognized.

I download it from sourceforge (where I upload it yesterday, identifying it as v1 just in case there will be more versions)

As I said, no problem, I include photos with another wallpaper.

The link to sourceforge is: https://sourceforge.net/projects/darkpuppy/
internetarchive: https://archive.org/details/darkpuppy_v1

Of course, all credits go to @sonny

@sonny As I said, I didn't test it, but for no advanced users, could be easy include a link to connect to the internet without VPN.

Excuseme for the quality of the photos, I take them using a portable phone..... out of home, haha

Have a nice day u all.

  1. Conky should be transparent, even after screenlock
  2. Cairo-Dock should have no transparent solid background
  3. ProtonVPN connection is manual, the systray icon turns blue when you're on VPN

Try flashing the ISO with Rufus.

Thanks again.

I just recreated the ISO. This time with "Puppy Simple Remaster".
Tested perfect with Rufus. Should be working with others as well.
The link up there has been updated.

I'm pretty much a plain manual frugal install kind of a guy.

I have a copy of it installed with pupemode 13.

Only note is the light grey on yellow on the first logout save folder setup menu is hard to read for me.

This is just a note:

On Sourceforge under Summary tab it says: "You are going to find 2 versions.- The basic one (2.1Gb) and the BadAss Edition (for gamers (5.1Gb)". But on the Files tab it show 3 ISOs. ...You may want to describe the 3rd ISO.

Looking good!
