My wish is that EasyOS have a special base container
that supports a few basic features such as jpeg and png files opening and music playing
i.e. wav and mp3 opening ---> Alsa utilities and mpg123 app.
.... and yad and gtkdialog GUI apps support as well
.... and the extraction utilities that Uextract uses.

This would allow non-programmers or poor programmers such as me to write apps for this base container
and they could be installed without much complexity. i.e. no special SFS file would need to be installed
(example : avoiding the need of installing Buster libraries to run Krita)

This would allow the kernel to develop in the future. The base container apps would need little to no change year by year.
...and base container apps would support the clipboard to exchange data from one container to another.

A few requests

1. Please reduce bootup time. 1st delay is in selecting either WINDOWS or EASY. 2nd countdown is upon entering EASY. These 2 counters take about half a minute.

2. EPUB file viewer/reader needed. The pdf reader is not opening *.EPUB.

3. The Screenshot software is below par. These have to be improved.

4. Inkscape Vector editor should come in the list of OPEN WITH upon right clicking a graphic file.

The boot-loader is a separate thing from EasyOS.

On the USB stick, the Limine boot-loader is used. If you don't want it's menu, in the boot-partition, edit 'limine.cfg', change:

Past the boot-loader, I get to the desktop in about 10 seconds. Or thereabouts, been awhile since I timed it.
Though, in my case, always enter a password at bootup, so it stops and waits for my input, then proceeds to desktop.

Apt get command or gui may be incorporated with EasyOs.This is very good adition to existing setup. Installation of many software will be very very easy. Even if Apt is not talking with puppet , the same may please be implemented. Now every time browser or any software is manually updated, which is time consuming and cumbersome.

Hello everyone,

I would have a wish too: could someone make a SFS for a new freecad version? 0.18 is very outdated now, and the new versions have so many new features, for the arch module as well as for cam/cnc processing.

I've downloaded the appimage of version 0.20, outdated now too, but it doesn't work in all EasyOS versions. In 4.4 it was okay, now not anymore....

I'm no programmer, only an experienced user, maybe if s.o. else would do it, you would be much faster. For me it'd be a torture.

The latest AppImage for Freecad is up to date (0.20.2, released in December). It starts up OK for me on 4.5.5.

I have no problem writing the EasyOS image file on USB stick using Rufus 3.21 on Windows 10.
It took only 3 minutes and 24 secs. on USB 2.0 port.

I finally copied it to a usb, I can start with it without problems, but I have difficulties installing it in my partition where I have some puppies installed.

I can't make it start easyos when booting.

I'll ask you for help, but today I have tons of work, and I found a lot of problems.

yes okay, very most appimages run in EasyOS, but with freecad I always have problems. It's so much download volume, around 800 GB, and I'm only on 4G data connection. If it doesnt work, must dl again..... a new SFS would be better ....

Berto,

An Appimage is already a 'squashed' file, an SFS would be no smaller. What I have done is extract it split it into smaller parts and compressed them again. If it is any help, download them, but they will need putting together again.
I'd make a directory (call it FreeCAD perhaps). Extract the 'FreeCAD' file first and copy contents into this directory.
Unpack the other files and copy their contents into usr/lib (in the FreeCAD directory ).
This will be nearly 4GB but will still run.
To convert it back to a much smaller AppImage, you need this tool: https://appimage.github.io/appimagetool/
It is an AppImage itself and only 2mb. Just place it in the same place as the FreeCAD directory you made, then run

to create the AppImage. When I tried it, it came out a little larger than the original, but that doesn't really matter.

The biggest file is 198MB and the smallest 70MB. I just made a rough guess on how to split it up, and it can be a bit tedious to do the compression so only made the one attempt.

I want to install EasyOS on my notebook's hard disk, I couldn't. For a lightweight distribution, installation shouldn't be this hard. ISO file is needed.
I tried EasyOS, it's a really great distro, it looks way too good. I've used many Linux distributions, EasyOS could be the default. Peace!

Are they any operating system installed on this hard disk. Would you preserve them?

- If and only if you don't need the content of the hard disk,
the simplest method to install EasyOS is to use dd (or EasyDD) (as if the hdd was a usb key)
(In this case see the paragraph Precaution on the page indicated by ally )

- If there are at least one operating system that you would keep,
the installation consists of copying some files to the hdd and then install limine on the notebook.

You don't need a tutorial, just download the .deb and then click on it, and there will be an offer to install.

As long as Easy has all the needed dependencies, it should work.

The downloaded DEB files install with just one click.

Nothing comes in the Menu as indicated by the Message Window after successful install. Cannot figure out where they go.

It should install in /opt/sejda-desktop/
I ran from terminal:
/opt/sejda-desktop/sejda-desktop
And got message that it cannot run as root
[0221/175631.046599:FATAL:electron_main_delegate.cc(292)] Running as root without --no-sandbox is not supported. See https://crbug.com/638180.
So added --no-sandbox
/opt/sejda-desktop/sejda-desktop --no-sandbox
And it works for me (although should mention that I tested this on DebianDog, not on EasyOs).

I can confirm it runs in EasyOS. Edited the desktop file (in /usr/share/applications) to add '--no-sandbox', and the full path. Runs after clicking the desktop file (which I dragged to the desktop), but not from the menu. It does show up under Utilities.

Regarding these last two posts, there is nothing extra required to install.
Just click on any .img or .iso file to open it.
This capability has been builtin to Easy for ages.

Note also, the new Kirkstone-series offers a choice of mounting the partitions of .img file as read-only or read-write:

I had some discussion with williwaw.

Yes, his mount-img is ok when running a distribution other than EasyOS.

Easy has full support for mounting .img and .iso files. Installing anything else will mess up these mechanisms.

You can left-click or right-click on a .img or .iso. In the latter case, a menu pops up and you can choose the appropriate action. But just left-click is simple.

From the terminal, this command works and the software is alive.
/opt/sejda-desktop/sejda-desktop --no-sandbox

But it is wordy with a lot of messages in the terminal window for not connecting to internet. No worry on that.

Question: Where to add '--no-sandbox' to the copied file at the desktop?
