Gnome on EasyOS?

Post by Outis3 »

Hello,

I am new to EasyOS, and I would like to use it on my convertible laptop (Acer Spin 1).
Since the default desktop manager and window manager are not quite touch screen friendly, I would like to transplant the Gnome GUI to EasyOS. However, the standard methods of installing Gnome, using the Shell, do not work.
My attempts, to install gnome, using petget, or sfsget also failed.
Could anybody explain to me, if I can install Gnome on EasyOS, and how it works?

Thank you very much.

@Outis3

I have an Acer Spin 1 from which Windows 10 has been removed to install a Linux distribution on it.

What type of installation did you do for EasyOS? Is your media on USB or did you do the full install on the device?
EasyOS, as well as Puppy in general, need a light desktop because it is installed in RAM. Gnome (recent version) is a heaviness monster.

Try instead to install for example Manjaro Gnome on the disk of the Acer Spin 1 and use EasyOS installed on USB. On my side, my type of installation looks like this: Solus Budgie is installed on the device and EasyOS via USB. For me, this is a winning configuration in my case.

Currently, I have Easy booting from a USB...

"EasyOS, as well as Puppy in general, need a light desktop because it is installed in RAM. Gnome (recent version) is a heaviness monster." If you are suggesting, not to combine Gnome and Easy OS, what should I use instead, if I want to stick to Easy OS but want to have a touchschreen friendly desktop?
