EasyOS 0.101 released

Post by BarryK »

This is the Dunfell-series, packages compiled completely from source using a fork of OpenEmbedded. Kernel is 5.10.2. Blog announcement:

This is for experimenters. The Buster-series, v2.5.5, is recommended for most people.

Using the 5.10.2 kernel, it is always stuck for a period of time during the boot process, displaying:
making the filesystem usable...depmod
In this sentence, stuck for a minute or so before continuing to start

I have tested 0.102 and now 0.103 booted from USB-stick, and no noticeable delay when it runs depmod.

Are you using a very cheap USB-stick? That can make a huge difference.

The USB-sticks that I usually use are SanDisk Ultra USB3.0 16GB and 32GB. I get them from BigW here in Perth, AU, quite a reasonable price. No where near an SSD speed, but much faster than the very cheap ones.
They have also been very reliable.

Note that depmod should only run once, not at subsequent bootups.
