Thoughts on Easy's default screenshot apps

Post by szept »

I've already mentioned that a year or 2 ago and @BarryK told me there are already 3 apps for screen shots in Easy, so there's no need to add another one, but I still think it's a shame there's no Windows' Snipping Tool equivalent in Easy. Snipping Tool is very intuitive and easy to use with a very simple menu. The only screen shot app I've found to be equally good (or even better!) is Flameshot. In Easy we now have:

  1. Screeny - very good for quick actions: many screenshots with auto saving, which makes it great for such operations, but there's no edit options, e.g. draw notes, lines, arrows.

  2. Take a shot - in my opinion rather useless.

  3. mtPaint screenshot - I agree it has edit options, but on the other hand it's bit more complicated than Flameshot and not so intuitive.

Anyone else having similar thouths?

Of course, it depends on your needs, but for me is enough with two programas (correctly configured)

TAS

xfce4-screenshooter.

TAS + Gimp IT'S A MUST.

Easiest way to take and edit a screenshot is to do it directly from GIMP. "File, create, screenshot", set your delay, it opens in GIMP, edit and done.

That makes TAS even more useless in my opinion.
Another trouble with TAS is you cannot really do a precise area selection as there are no indication lines.

What you get in Flameshot is the ability to resize selection, which makes it very useful in my opinion.

That's why I like GIMP for this job. Don't worry about selection, just grab the screen, crop out precisely what you want, tweak the colours if you wish, resize and adjust resolution, export file in whatever format you desire. Takes very little time and super convenient.

Yup, I thought you can do that, so I get the usefulness of GIMP - it's a great app! However for simple things like screenshots I prefer simpler apps (There are many people, including myself, who don't feel comfortable in wast of options of GIMP and spend more time searching for tutorials of how to draw a line than it's actually worth it) and Flameshot is the best in my opinion and simple.
