Easy Scarthgap and Easy Daedalus: psync sees no internet connection

Post by minimalist »

Hi,

This applies to the newest editions of Easy Scarthgap and Daedalus but also previous ones: I have a working wired internet connection but psync shows an error that it finds no active network connection. It cannot find a time server in North America. I am encountering this when booting from a USB drive on more than one computer. I have not found any posts about this for EasyOS. Where should I look for troubleshooting?

The network icon in my system tray (bottom right of screen) shows no network connection even when one is active. Big deal.

Both incarnations of EasyOS work great for me otherwise! Thank you very much!

I have no problem on installed HD EasyOS. Both wired and wireless are connected. :thumbup2:

Too reproduce minimalist's situation, you will have to disable the wifi, so there is only ethernet.

@minimalist
Run this in a terminal, does it show a eth0 network connection:

Code: Select all

# getlocalip

Psync... trying to recall. I think that is an old .pet package, superceeded by Qsync that is builtin to EasyOS.
In menu, "Setup -> Date and time setup -> Qsync set time from Internet"

Or, click on desktop icon "setup" then "System -> Clock"

Qsync is /usr/bin/qsync
...you could run it from a terminal to see any error messages.

There are some old pets hanging around on the repository. I will remove psync.

EDIT:
Took a look at pync. It installs /root/Startup/timesync.sh so you will need to remove that as well as uninstall psync via PKGget.

Thank you. It is qsync and not psync.

There is an active wired internet connection:
# getlocalip
console1: 10.226.154.144

# /usr/bin/qsync opens the Qsync dialog.

Status: Qsync is currently enabled. Localtime set to: Central
Setup: Untick to disable Qsync is ticked. NTP server: North America

After clicking OK, There is a message: Time will sync when network connection is established.

Ah, so you are doing it from inside a container.

There is likely a security restriction that is preventing the ntp client from working.

Run Qsync on the main desktop.
