Best Way to Update Firefox in Daedalus 6.4.4? -SOLVED

Post by tigerflag »

I'll be posting a few setup questions re Daedalus 6.4.4. Here's the first one:

When setting up Daedalus 6.4.4 I used the EasyOS tool (in the Internet section of the menu) to download the latest Firefox, version 133.0. I'm unable to update it. It says "updates disabled by your organization."

I heavily customize my FF both with addons and in about:config. If I do another "Download the latest Firefox" to make it current will I lose all my customizations?

Or would I be better off using Firefox ESR via PKGget? I think I was using FF ESR before, and it updated automagically.

Thanks!

Why don't you update to Daedalus 6.5.1.1?

The older Daedalus version had firefox esr, which was a problem to update.

With Daedalus 6.5.1.1, the menu entry "Download latest Firefox" should work, whenever you want to update to latest ff.

Trying to recall... there was a problem when transitioning ff esr to the latest ff. That was discussed on the forum.

Sometimes when I do updates things end up breaking that I have trouble fixing (it's why I stuck with BionicPup for so long) and right now most things in 6.4.4 are working pretty well. Not saying I won't update...

I'm using regular FF v. 133.0, not the ESR version. The menu entry for "Download latest Firefox" works fine. It's how I got this version of FF that I'm using. If I click "Download latest Firefox" *again* to get v.133.03, will it simply add a few bug fixes to what I have, or will it wipe out my current FF entirely, along with all the customizations I made to it?

Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Doing an update with the "Download latest Firefox" tool works great. It's just a regular kind of update. It does NOT wipe out customization in the previous version.

What a neat, thoughtful distro this is. Marking this Solved. Thanks again.

Yes, the update applies to the code, /usr/lib/firefox

All your personal settings, such as bookmarks, are in /home/firefox, which is not affected by the update.
