Running a portable in EasyOs as it's own user

Post by williwaw »

I have a portable browser (located on another partition) that I run as spot with a start script. It's a bit inconvient to have to navigate to home/spot/downloads to find saved downloads and move them to somewhere owned by root to make use of them. I would like to access them in /files/downloads.

Is their a way to run the portable, in this case chromium-ungoogled, as its own user without installing to /usr/bin?

You can find out how it is decided what to include and leave out, in /usr/local/clients/choose-clients

Hi Barry,
thanks for that. I had previously found /usr/local/clients/choose-clients and worked with a new .desktop file in /usr/share/applications. editing the exec= line to the full path to my portable seemed to open the app when the .desktop was clicked but it was not showing up in the left hand list of client manager.
creating a link in /usr/bin to the portable and editing exec=name-of-new-link did the trick. all went smooth with the creation of the new user and running the app as its own user.
