Is my gpu too old for the nvidia.sfs? [SOLVED]

Post by jp734 »

I have NVidia Quadro K620 and installed the nvidia_5.15.158-390.157_amd64.sfs on kirkstone. It failed at boot. Is my gpu supported by the driver?

The following is where the error started on Xorg.0.log

Find out if the kernel has reported any useful information.

Bootup to the console, no X. Run:

# dmesg > /mnt/wkg/dmesg.log

You can run the console text editor 'mp' to view it, or bootup a different distro, or same distro without the nvidia sfs, and view that file in geany.

You can remove nvidia.sfs from loading by editing /mnt/wkg/releases/easy-5.8.3/configuration and remove the line "EASY_LAYER..." that causes the nvidia sfs to load. You can do this with 'mp'.

As an extra, you can also delete this symlink, though not essential:

# rm -f /mnt/wkg/releases/easy-5.8.3/nvidia.sfs
# sync

Then reboot

Another thing to check...

Barry's SFS should have blacklisted the nouveau video driver, but you can check that
by going to Barry's bootmanager app from start up menu.

I started from scratch and everything is working now. It must be from when I tried using the newer version of the driver before I downloaded the 390. I only selected the 390, but still I think some files have been copied and interfering with the 390 driver.

All good.
