Devuanpup 32 and 64 ( woof-ce )

Post by josejp2424 »

woof-ce, used by @dimkr for his dpupOS

this devuanpup uses chimaera packages which would be the (bullseye).
transition to gtk3 , Kernel 5.10.17 (64 bits) , 4.19.160 (32 bits),
Most of the programs are executed in user Spot

This puplet comes with 2 desktops. JWM and openbox with tint2.

openbox with tint2. and JWM

Image

You can use apt or apt-get thanks to @sc0ttman for the package , Pkg , ( allows you to use a wrapper to simulate apt )

Hi Josejp2424,
I love your developments!
I am downloading now the 32bit version (as you can see on following view made in Dpup Buster 32bit with XFCE4 in pale moon rigth in the top bar :thumbup2:
I did improve my version of Dpup Buster with a lot of adds, for ex.:

- Windows95  , running well in 32 bit DPup :thumbup2:
- both pale moon 29.2.0  (will be the last version in 32 bit but is yet actual now) and seamonkey 2.32 (the last version with the real xulrunner  ) giving me 4 advantages: 2 totally independent mozilla (as pale moon does not use /root/.mozilla but it's own hidden subdir ;) ), a fresh mozilla, a WYSYG HTML editor made with xulrunner and the other advantages of seamonkey (IRC, the use of hunspell with an simple link to /usr/hunspell to both pale moon and seamonkey  (*1
- mTpaint (I can't live without mTpaint  , it is genial, or xvidcap, or MHwaveedit, or NtEd, or granule for educative purposes
- viewnior, abiword, gnumeric, magicpoint, osmo, gimp, gimagereader, nano, xombrero browser and tazweb, the browser from SliTaz added
- a lot of special fonts like tamil, korean, devanagari, chinese (xfce4 gives good access including commutation between 2 of them: us int and, for ex. tamil ...

see the print screen with Windows95 in action (you must use the user spot, it refuses to start as root  ), the links to the depository from Felix Rieseberg (
http://www.felixrieseberg.com/ , https://github.com/felixrieseberg ), the maintener from the app windows95, the palemoon with that discussion etc.!

I hope very much your both versions with XFCE4 for Devuan (or SID, I use SID 32 bit, it is my first installation on this 64 bit machine with i7 and 8 GB ram  !! As 64 bit version would DEEPIN with 32 bit compatibility lib's because of the GREAT Deepin Shop, free, of course, so much better: you can get a lot of gread oldies in 32 bit like scratch2 for children etc. The Deepin shop is an of the best ones! Try it!)

Is pulse audio present in Devuanpup 32 or 64?

Kind regards

(*1 to avoid a to big remastered iso, I don't reinstall pale moon and seamonkey extra: I install then in my full installation from Debian SID 32 bit (a light installation comparable with Puppy) and in Deepin 2 (also a full installation, some kind maximal, because I did install a lot from the Deepin shop ). After they are installed, I did move them into my partition /mnt/sda5 . And I did mount using /etc/fstab that /dev/sda5 in Puppy /home/spot/documents :welcome: and did put the content of /usr/lib/seamonkey (or /opt/seamonkey) as well as /usr/lib/palemoon into /home/spot/documents (more: same thing with /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins, /usr/share/fonts and /usr/share/hunspell as well as /usr/share/xombrero and /usr/share/tesseract-ocr: all this ballast is so accessible for all my Puppy's and does not grown the ISO  and on all my PC's (I have divers ones in the house) that /dev/sda5 is the unified place for the contents of all common external sources of opt ressources as well as documents; I did learn this technical design from rainer (thank you rainer for that idea in your own complexe realisations but you did forget to use /etc/fstad to simplify all that deal...)
[textcolors]
added 08.06.21:

Why into sda5 especially? simply because on a lot of PC this partition is not used or can be easily moved as it is always the first partition in the extended logical partition where the user has no place problem: he can create a lot of new partitions as he want![/textcolors]

very bad is to preinstall some stuff in /home/spot because you can not use free /home/spot to mount an other partition!

at this stage, Devuanpup32 starts better than Dpup Buster (no halt before Xwindows appears!).

a really GREAT puppy with best stuff and pulse audio built in! :thumbup2:

sorry but /home/spot is again occupied

and gparted does not start, see print screen

did make a big remasterisation with xfce4 etc etc.

the depository linked in puppy seems to be very complete and good :thumbup2: :thumbup2: :thumbup2:

but I must do all the job again  as the commutation from jwm to xfce4 and back is not implemented  and I know no actual dotpet to do that. second possible problem: probably is the usage of XFCE4 from this depository as getting from it problematic because we don't use some display manager  as starting point for the xfce4 session (as xfce4 as as goal to save the session and restore it at the next start!)

for those able to read French: see my last msg at the French subdiv concerning the use of typical Puppy app's and more (Xcfe4, wordgrinder, granule, etc to learn and use different languages!)

or from the sourceforge repo.
the one on sourceforge in my case always opens.

wmswitcher.zip

yes, the wmswitcher is also built in in Devuanpup as Devuanpup offers both JWM and Openbox and have to commute between both.

but it seems near impossible to add some other wm (or that is not explained: how to?)

and Devuanpup contains actually a to complex mixture of different software, too much doublets of them, is for nothing grown to much (so that users become to large ISO's if they remaster with the really needing and using applications  ! It was not a good idea to add some openbox to a nearly perfect JWM! Why?!? . why not an openbox without some jwm and jwm-menu support :welcome: ?)

I hope and am awaiting for an Devuan 32 and 64 pure with XFCE4 not needing or having some doublets as it was the case in Buster Pup from josejp2424! This was and continue to be a really great Puppy and great Linux!

Good evening Josejp,

Sorry for my late reply... indeed I had installed vlc from the ppm and it didn't open at all. With the sourceforge package vlc opens well but I have no sound and I have not been able to solve the problem

Hello @josejp2424

Got around to testing the latest version. Very nice indeed.

I downloaded your 64bit ISO file to /BOOTISOS on my SG2D USB and booted it directly to desktop on a BIOS 64bit PC (no changes or fiddling required). Made FirstRun changes and accessed some local media files playback: Including selecting Openbox. I edited via PupControl>Desktop>Window Manager for 6 desktops. But, the taskbar is not showing the additional desktops for selections.
I am sure I am missing something that I must do to see those desktops for selection, but not sure what. Help?

Another problem(bug) I ran into is using the Printscrn key. It yields an error in Openbox. Not sure if this is the case in the other WM.

  • Installed Chrome...OK

  • Installed QEMU 5.2 from Package manager...OK and started via qemu_gui in a terminal. This ISO file also booted directly via the QEMU GUI.

qemu_gui.jpg
qemu_gui.jpg (29.12 KiB) Viewed 7951 times

After testing, shutdown saving the session to /Sessions folder on sda3 (ext4 partition). On reboot, edited linux line adding "psave=sda3:/Sessions/". Devuanpup64 found its save and proceeded to desktop.

This work is responsive and clean.

Working with...

title DevuanPup 2021 (sdd1/devuanpup)
find --set-root --ignore-floppies /devuanpup/initrd.gz
kernel /devuanpup/vmlinuz pmedia=usbflash psubdir=devuanpup pfix=fsck
initrd /devuanpup/initrd.gz

Hours of frustration getting usb booting to work.
I will post elsewhere about this.
